Financial Institution Examiners assess the financial condition of Nebraska state-chartered financial institutions and determine compliance with safe and sound practices, laws and regulations, the adequacy of internal controls/procedures, and the general performance of management. Examiners draft comments and analyses for inclusion in reports of examination and meet with officials of the financial institution, including the board of directors, to discuss the findings of an examination and, if necessary, to institute any corrective programs.

As you enter this position, you will begin as an Examiner Trainee earning $21.487/hour. As you gain experience and complete the necessary training programs (provided by the Department), you will advance to Junior ($24.041) and Senior ($27.371) level Examiner status.

Examples of Work
• Conducts, supervises, and directs examinations of Nebraska state-chartered financial institutions.
• Develops recommendations for correction of weaknesses or deficiencies in institution operations, management, policies, and other areas subject to criticism.
• Meets with financial institution officials and/or boards of directors to discuss findings of the examination, discuss corrective programs, and obtain commitments for correction of deficiencies.
• Performs periodic review of financial information and prepares summary reports in the interim periods between examinations.
• Prepares and submits confidential reports of examination and, as circumstances dictate, participate in joint or concurrent examination activities with Federal examiner counterparts.
• This position requires travel between 1-10 days/month and the possibility of overnight stays upwards of 20 days/year for examinations or training schools
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's* or graduate degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting, or economics or FinTech, and a minimum of six semester hours in accounting. A bachelor's* or graduate degree in a related field with professional or technical experience in accounting, finance, or economics, or in the banking, credit union, or savings and loan industry that affords a knowledge of financial management and analysis may be substituted on a year-for-year basis when absent a degree in the required education. A copy of your college transcripts must be submitted with your application. *Students graduating in or before June 2022, are encouraged to apply with the understanding that employment will not begin until an appropriate degree has been acquired.

PREFERRED: CSBS Certification of Certified Examiner-In-Charge or NASCUS Certification of Certified State Credit Union Examiner. Specialized education or experience in: lending, loan policy development, loan review and bank or credit union operations.

OTHER: Day and overnight travel is required for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license and evidence of vehicle insurance or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Must pass a criminal background check and motor vehicle records check. Regular and reliable attendance is required for this position. *Students graduating in or before June 2022, are encouraged to apply with the understanding that employment will not begin until an appropriate degree has been acquired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Working knowledge of basic financial and accounting principles and practices. - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to analyze and interpret financial institution accounting and financial data, laws, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with personnel of regulated financial institutions, regulatory authorities, and the general public; as well as Department staff, supervisors, and management. • Ability to successfully work in a team setting with a group of examiners and financial institution employees.
• Ability to use video meeting, word processing/spreadsheet software, and web-based computer applications proficiently.
• Ability to respect and maintain the confidentiality required by the position.
• Displays high standards of ethical conduct.
