This position reports to the Financial Aid Manager. It is responsible for managing one or more programs of financial aid or veterans' benefits, providing customer service by speaking with students and parents on the phone and in person, and reviewing documents that are part of completing the application process.

Responsibilities

Monitor the processing of the aid or benefit program assigned to ensure that awards are made correctly and on time.

Make corrections or changes to students' awards as needed to comply with program regulations and institutional policy or as requested by the student.

Monitor awards to ensure that they disburse accurately. Review awards that do not disburse to determine if the student is ineligible or if the condition(s) preventing disbursement can be corrected.

Perform reconciliation every month and at the end of the semester/fiscal year to compare the amounts disbursed in Banner with the amount approved for disbursement by the federal or state government.

Run reports necessary to perform the program management functions and submit requests for modifications to these reports as needed.

Stay current with state and federal regulations affecting the programs being managed and the aid programs in general.

Advise students on financial aid/benefit processes, including their opportunities, rights, and responsibilities, and assist students in completing financial aid applications. Respond to financial aid/benefit questions from students and parents.

Review documents submitted by students and parents to determine eligibility.

Assist in updating the financial aid policy and procedures handbook.

Assist in preparing reports for and responding to federal and state government audits.

Attend necessary workshops and seminars.

Assist with financial aid for recruitment, admission, enrollment, and retention activities.

Conduct financial aid presentations for groups of current and prospective students as requested.

Provide office hours at other campuses as required.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Student Financial Aid Services or Financial Aid Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field is required.

Two years of related employment experience including program management and customer service.

MS Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs is preferred.

IL Map Grant Program (preferred)

ECACE Program (preferred)

Banner experience or comparable system experience (i.e., Colleague, PowerFaids, PeopleSoft, etc.)

Good human relations and communication skills.

Ability to work closely and confidentially with students.

Good organizational skills.

Bilingual Spanish/English desired.
