The Office of Admissions is the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for recruiting the freshman class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing Indiana University Bloomington.

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for understanding, interpreting, and following complex set of instructions to review admission applications and transfer credit articulations.
  • Responsible for accurate and consistent review of undergraduate applications according to the policies and guidelines set by our faculty and the university.
  • Provides assistance, guidance, and solutions to staff and campus partners regarding complex admissions issues.
  • Provides guidance and counsel to students and families for complex issues regarding admissions decisions, policies, options, and exceptions.
  • Effectively uses available systems and programs to best serve the questions and needs of students, families, campus partners, and colleagues.
  • Assists File Review Team leadership on special projects to meet Office of Admissions goals.
General Responsibilities
  • Directs, manages, and monitors the business process design and workflow for the credentials analyst processing staff. Services include the processing and recording of transcripts and grades, evaluation and determination of residency classifications, maintenance of documentation and the knowledge base, and communications with students and the public.
  • Ensures prompt, accurate, and efficient individual services to students, faculty, and staff and that operational practices are integrated into the processing cycles of other university departments whose services and operations include related and dependent activities.
  • Provides general direction for staff, allocates resources, performs performance evaluations, determines the sequence of events, and generally manages the workflow, services, and timelines for the operations ensuring that workflow is responsive and integrated into the overall departmental goals and timetables.
  • Trains new and continuing staff regarding the evaluation and procedures of high school and college transcripts and credit transfer articulation database functions.
  • Represents the department and serves as a content expert on credentials analysis, residency rules, admission application flow and business processes for both current operations as well as modifications and revisions to policy, procedures and/or software. Represents the admissions function in determining the best resolution, gathering information, consulting with stakeholders, and admitting or denying admission to students based on the analysis.
  • Analyzes individual situations on a case-by-case basis , administering and interpreting university policy, and exercising professional judgment on the more problematic or unique situations regarding credit articulations and/or residency rules.
  • Provides guidance and direction to staff regarding policies and procedures; ensures proper processing of admissions credentials; serves as a resource on problems or issues; and responds to information requests and inquiries.
  • Contributes to the development of new university policies and procedures relative to articulation and transfer agreements, course equivalencies, and residency interpretations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or GED
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years of office or related experience

  • Experience working with complex data and/or records services in a team environment

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Hours

Mid October to mid December is our busy processing time and overtime work is possible during this time, especially in November.
