Job Summary

Drive the Sustainable Finance business in the Americas for Standard Chartered Bank, contributing to deep and focused strategic conversations with clients around sustainability and sustainable finance, and ensuring that target sustainable finance revenues for the Americas are met. The role will also entail engagement with internal and external stakeholders at senior level, including engagement not only with clients, but with peers, players in the market, and government amongst others.

Responsibilities

Work with the Regional Head of Sustainable Finance ("SF"), West, and more senior team members to drive origination, develop strong client relationships at senior levels and be seen as an expert in Sustainable Finance by internal and external stakeholders.

The individual will need to be able to identify and originate SF transactions, be a centre of excellence, and be able to develop and advise on sustainable financing structures in line with industry trends. The candidate will further have to support the Regional Head with developing and rolling out regional and global strategic initiatives and create relevant partnerships with external organizations that will help further the Sustainable Finance mandate.

Our Sustainable Finance team serves as a centre of expertise on a broad set of ESG topics, providing thought leadership, strategic advice and transaction support for SCB's clients. The group sits under the Chief Sustainability Officer and works with product, sales and coverage teams to identify and deliver on ESG-related advisory and product opportunities. The role also involves developing strategic relationships with key developmental organizations, such as the World Bank and its entities, to lead the momentum of mobilizing capital to our footprint markets for sustainable projects. The role requires therefore an individual who has extensive experience with banking products, and therefore the ability to structure innovative solutions that can bring together different parties, including the public sector.

The Role described below is for an experienced and self-driven individual who will be responsible for the regional Americas business growth and development and who is capable of operating independently and engage with senior level management both internally and externally with clients and other stakeholders.

Strategy

  • Work on the development and implementation of client strategies for Sustainable Finance products
  • Work closely with the Regional Head of Sustainable Finance to develop and execute a plan that would make SC the Bank best known for Sustainable Finance by our clients and other stakeholders in the Americas.
  • Work closely with the wider SF team, coverage and product partners to develop an understanding of the competitive landscape and identify prospective partners who can address customer needs and accelerate growth
  • Work closely with group corporate affairs to build a regional internal / external stakeholder strategy promoting sustainability, ensuring a consistent messaging internally and to the wider market
Business
  • Drive new sustainable finance transactions and origination across all products, loans, bonds, trade derivatives and deposits amongst others, and achieve the annual assigned budget for the Americas
  • Have a good understanding of the client base and proactively build pipeline, identifying core industries
  • Be able to work with relationship teams to develop client transition plans that encourage decarbonisation
  • Proactively remain abreast of regional global, and industry developments, assess implications and align and develop Bank relevant initiatives across businesses in response to regulatory and industry developments in sustainable finance
  • Be fluent in ESG ratings and benchmarking analysis
  • Developing Sector thematics that describe sustainable finance structure alternatives
  • Develop opportunities through attendance and speaking at key Industry events as necessary.
Processes
  • Proactively manage the designated Sustainable Finance client and product portfolio to ensure risks are appropriately identified and managed.
  • Maintain close ties with key internal stakeholders e.g. Coverage, Financial Markets, Transaction Banking, Corporate Finance, Risk, Country CEOs, Service Delivery, etc.
  • Understand and convey / educate key internal stakeholders in the Americas about various processes, including approval processes for various sustainable finance related transactions.
People & Talent
  • Training and capacity building of the regional origination and risk teams, in addition to coverage bankers and product partners
  • Remain abreast of industry and market developments through regular upscale and training, attending events and webinars, amongst others
Risk Management
  • Build and maintain an understanding on environmental and social risks across industry classes
  • Safeguard the bank against reputational risk damage but proactively developing sustainable finance structures that are in line with global industry best practices
  • Encourage good and proactive management of environmental, social, regulatory, reputational and ethical risks governance across by all areas of the business
  • Take the initiative regarding regulatory, reputational and ethical matters, and proactively provide advice to clients.
Governance
  • Ensure compliance with the sustainable finance governance structure and environmental and social risk management policies. Challenge improvement of these
  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Degree (BA or equivalent)
  • 10-12 years plus banking experience with a minimum of 4+ years of experience in Origination
  • Knowledge of and experience across multiple products (preferred)
  • Knowledge of environmental and socials risks and ESRM policies of the bank
  • Ability to promote good teamwork, collaboration and management of conflict across stakeholders Ability to independently drive initiatives with minimum hands-on supervision

Expected annual base pay range for the role is $203,520 - $305,280 .The final offer will be determined on an individualised basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location. At Standard Chartered Bank, Base pay is only part of the total compensation package.
