Prologis is seeking an ambitious and passionate Engineering Manager (Utility Scale BESS Electrical) to lead engineering efforts and support all phases of project development of its grid scale storage portfolio in the US. We have made a public commitment to achieve 1 GW of solar and storage by year-end 2025 and battery energy storage systems will play an important role in our business growth.

The Prologis Energy Team has multiple GWs of pipeline for battery energy storage systems across North America, with several projects coming online in the near future. This role will work closely with our development and execution teams to bring projects from conception to commercial operations. This position offers an unparalleled ability to build one of the largest portfolios of Utility scale BESS assets globally.

Key responsibilities include:

• Responsible for all electrical engineering design elements throughout the full life cycle of utility scale BESS projects. As an individual contributor, the BESS Engineering Manager will be responsible from project origination, conception through commissioning and O&M.
• Manage all the engineering elements provided by EPC vendors to support the project through early development, budgeting / estimation, stakeholder management, and provide support as required on regulatory approval and interconnection agreement.
• Drive development of design standards and best practices for supporting BESS installations. Review utility interconnection documents (IA's, PPA Documents etc.) and ensure downstream teams are developing projects in conformance with Prologis BESS Standards. Be the technical interface for all BESS solutions and help with BESS OEM Integrations, EMS selection etc.
• Provide support to the internal Team and help develop process for standalone Utility scale BESS and hybrid PV+BESS projects from initial product selection through construction.
• Evaluate new technologies and vendors; collaborate cross functionally to help develop and maintain standard set of specifications for supporting sales, design and installation of our Utility Scale BESS solutions.
• Serve as the main electrical point of contact on the projects from BESS OEM selection, major electrical system design, FAT/SAT testing, testing and commissioning of the system until COD.
• Review 5%, 10% to 30% SLD, Communication and Control diagrams, and develop Provide as needed construction support / oversight / review of the engineering performed by our Contractors, Engineering/Procurement/Construction (EPC) partners, and Subcontractors, as required for successful completion of Utility BESS projects.
• Manage contractual relationships with Engineer Contractors/Consultants and coordinate with legal, as needed, to assist with contract negotiations and to resolve programmatic needs/requirements
• Lead cost reduction efforts including researching design alternatives and value engineering. Enforce processes, best practices, and strategies for the design and execution of cost and schedule-efficient projects.

Building blocks for success

Required:

• 5+ years' senior-level experience in engineering, technical project management, or sales engineering, ideally in a Utility Scale BESS environment
• Expert understanding of project development process from Design through Interconnection, Permitting and Construction
• Hands on experience in power generation, distribution, and other highly relevant industries.
• Positive, innovative, and collaborative attitude, strong ability to communicate across departments and drive to "find a solution that works"
• Strong understanding of the interplay between system design, cost, project economics, and financed pricing
• In-depth knowledge of MV Electrical systems, ampacity calcs, short circuit/load flow, protective device coordination, Arc flash and other electrical topics.
• In depth experience in dealing with Utilities, ISO's (ERCOT and CAISO), Permitting agencies (in CA and TX) and represent Prologis in the best possible way.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of Utility interconnection requirements, power purchase agreements, distributed solar, storage, EV and general renewable energy
• Basic understanding of electricity market design, federal and state regulatory rules and issues, tariff structures, renewable energy, and renewable incentives
• Able to travel up to 20% of the time

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Power Systems or Renewables.
• Master's degree.
• PE license.

Hiring Salary Range of $126,000.00 - $173,000.00. Salary and total compensation package (bonus target) to be determined by the candidate's location, education, experience, and skills, as well as internal pay equity and alignment with market data.
