Electrician- Apprentice (2)

General Statement of Job:
The Electrician ensures efficient operation of electrical systems and equipment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs a variety of skilled electrical work, as needed.
  2. Ensures efficient operation of lighting and power systems through maintenance using established procedures, performance specifications and available equipment.
  3. Performs preventative maintenance and equipment repairs according to schedule.
  4. Repairs and/or replaces defective equipment to include ballast, light bulbs, transformers, etc.
  5. Assists with inspections of new buildings under construction; reviews drawings, plans and submittals.
  6. Troubleshoots programmable controls, sensors and other electronic devices.
  7. Uses the college’s work order system (CMMS) to note time spent and the work performed relative to specific work request.
  8. Communicates with contractors and vendors, as needed.
  9. Responds to radio calls (7 days/24 hours).
  10. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  11. Prepares work order material by pulling from stock to meet technical and trade requirements.
  12. Operates and conducts routine preventive maintenance on College vehicles; notifies appropriate personnel of any vehicle maintenance required.
  13. Adheres to safety and health regulations.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. At least three (3) years of electrician work experience required.


Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  1. Security Sensitive position: All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
  2. In addition, subject to federal background check.
  3. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and be insurable under South Texas College’s insurance policy for driving.
  4. Must maintain authorization to drive College-owned vehicles.
  5. Electrical Apprentice license or certificate required.
