The Dock Distribution Associate at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard plays an essential role in the institute's logistics and distribution efforts, directly supporting its scientific research activities. Reporting to the Dock Team Lead and ultimately to the Director of Facilities, this position is responsible for the efficient handling of receiving, shipping, and distribution of materials. The associate ensures the timely processing of goods through the dock, maintains accurate inventory and tracking records, and adheres to safety and handling protocols.

As part of the dock operations team, the Dock Distribution Associate works closely with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the seamless flow of materials necessary for research projects. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and strong teamwork skills. The associate also contributes to the evaluation and implementation of logistical processes to improve operational efficiency. Through their work, the Dock Distribution Associate plays a crucial role in enabling the Ragon Institute to maintain its commitment to leading-edge scientific research by ensuring that researchers have the materials they need when they need them.

Job Duties:

  • Unloads, receives, processes and transports supplies, materials, furniture, equipment, pharmaceutical products, gas tanks, patient luggage and valuables delivered from outside couriers, vendors, and sources.
  • Coordinates the electronic processing of purchase orders in PeopleSoft.
  • Delivers materials (packages, patient luggage, pharmaceuticals, medical gas tanks, etc.) to designated locations - specific to end user on floor. Obtains signatures from recipients.
  • Accountable for verification of delivery receipts and proof of delivery to end user.
  • Responsible for the receipt and delivery of bulk medications from vendors to the pharmacy or nursing units as well as the transport of medication orders that are packaged for delivery from the pharmacy to various areas of MGH.
  • Provides proper interim storage for goods on the dock or receiving room.
  • Utilizes handheld barcode technology as a record-keeping function for receipts and deliveries.
  • Exercises appropriate body mechanics, care, and caution when handling and delivering materials.
  • Provide customer service support to end users and staff members.
• Repetitive lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

• Able to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • On your feet most of 8-10-hour shift. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Frequent elevator use.

• Repetitive lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
  • Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. under ideal safe lifting conditions as specified by HIOSH lifting equations.
  • Pushing/pulling force. 30 lbs. initial force, 13 lbs. sustained force.
  • Some hazards associated with soiled linens and needles.
  • Limited exposure to research specimens and animals.
  • Exposure to all types of weather.
  • Follows Hospital, JC, and DPH guidelines and procedures.


Qualifications
Minimum degree and field of knowledge: High school diploma

Years experience required: 1 year experience.
  • Computer experience and keyboarding skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Perform accurate record-keeping.
  • Must learn how to operate electrical or manual power jacks.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
