Director, Sustainability & Product Stewardship

Job Summary

This director position will enhance Benjamin Moore's compliance management by establishing and monitoring our sustainability programs and will oversee our product stewardship function to ensure product compliance risks are mitigated well in advance of business impact. The right candidate will be a dynamic and motivated individual who embraces autonomy and exhibits the critical and strategic thinking necessary to make decisions and provide recommendations regarding risk escalation and control issues. This self-starter will need to demonstrate the ability to continually improve the quality and effectiveness of the organization's strategies for driving efficiency and cost savings via strong program management. This critical role reports directly into our EVP, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and their major responsibilities will include, but not limited to;

Develop and implement strategies, policies, standards and operating procedures to ensure compliance with product laws and regulations in order to effectively mitigate risk and support business continuity and growth.

Oversee the effective translation of new and current national and global regulatory requirements and industry standards into easily understandable guidance for the organization.

Lead the team and direct the resources responsible for label compliance, quality system management, internal auditing, recalls and compliance improvement programs and business sustainability.

Work with various departments to ensure that the necessary information to update items such as product data sheets, product labeling and classification represent finished product compositions and properties and comply with regulatory requirements for raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.

Serve as the thought leader and SME for sustainability across the organization.

Work with the IT organization to develop the roadmap for sustainability and product stewardship to ensure compliance and efficiency

Establish, maintain and measure corporate sustainability strategies aimed in order to protect and preserve company assets while achieving maximum cost savings to meet financial objectives.

Proactively and rigorously manage relationships with third party service providers including emissions consultants, disaster recovery consultants, product stewardship outsource providers and other third party providers.

Work with Procurement and Legal to review and revise contract sustainability language to reduce exposure and utilize end to end transparency where possible.

Representing Benjamin Moore on the Berkshire Hathaway Sustainability Counsel and appropriate ACA subcommittees.

Establish working relationships will the key local/regional sustainability organizations and community outreach defined in the analysis/recommendations report.

Travel to various Benjamin Moore facilities and operational sites as required in order to develop ground level support for sustainability and product stewardship

Required Skills & Desired Experience:

Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred (preferably in a scientific field)

Minimum of 10 years' experience in either regulatory affairs, product safety, product stewardship or sustainability required.

A minimum of 5 years managing direct reports required.

Able to counsel the organization concerning product stewardship, and regulatory matters.

Experience successfully implementing and developing sustainability and product compliance assessments and mitigation plans and loss prevention programs, a must.

Ability to develop goals, objectives and action plans to execute strategic initiatives.

Demonstrated management of third party relationships.

Strong analytical skills, including the ability to quickly analyze data to generate key insights.

Proven ability to work in a team environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational skills.

Ability to represent the Company to internal and external executive stakeholders.

Strong business judgment, including the ability to balance resources.

Experience working for a national corporation at the senior manager or director level is preferred

25% Travel Required, once business travel is safely permitted
