SUMMARY

Working independently, the Merchandising Director works to lead the organization's strategy for expanding the business. The Merchandising Director leads a team of merchants to deliver sales results. Associate will interact with his or her supervisor and senior leadership as needed. This role is generally characterized by moderately high levels of enterprise-level scope; strategic, functional, and relational complexity, and a high level of independent decision making.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Strategy and Planning - Through cross functional alignment, develop, communicate, and execute strategic plans for business.
  • Uses solid business and financial acumen and thinking capability to evaluate strategic options and opportunities
  • Anticipates and raises business issues. Cultivates a culture of "no surprises" to ensure issues and problems are surfaced immediately
  • Accountable for financial results - knows categories performance, margin, and project impact
  • Manage Open to Buy, maintain margin targets, adhere to and maintain company inventory levels, meet GMROI metrics for dept and Individual metrics and meet company sales objective
  • Leadership
  • Foster an environment that welcomes change and promotes high levels of ingenuity and creative thinking, risk tolerance, and collaboration
  • Creates a culture of continuous improvement and skills building
  • Fosters open dialogue and collaboration across the organization
  • Proactive Communication - promotes flow of information upward, downward, and across the organization
  • Promotes ideas persuasively and provides compelling rationales for points of view
  • Interface with Sr leadership, Operations, Logistics, Visual Merchandising, Marketing, International Merchandising Partners, other departments, and organizations as needed
  • Manages through Ambiguity
  • Manage critical vendor relationships. Create, develop, and sustain productive business relationships internally and externally.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree with a related field of study required; Master's degree with a related field of study preferred
  • At least 10 years of merchandising experience required, with three or more years in a significant leadership role

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and apply expert knowledge of GameStop's business strategy
  • Expert knowledge of merchandising logistics and distribution
  • Expert knowledge of direct-to-consumer and/or business-to-business sales
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial ability, including high levels of risk tolerance, innovative thinking, and the ability to encourage creative and diverse thought in others
