The Director of Trade Finance will lead the Trade Finance line of business within the Capital Markets department for WSFS Bank. The Director of Trade Finance is the product manager, operational leader, and technology driver for the development of trade products and services. The primary objective of this role will be to lead the Trade Finance department as key component of its value proposition to customers for International Services. This includes all activities pertaining to structuring, issuance, administration, and risk management related to letters of credit and trade solutions. The incumbent will be expected to identify trade product needs, develop strategic plans to meet those needs, and drive the development of the technology and process capabilities to deliver market differentiating services. This position is expected to be the subject matter expert for the organization on Trade Finance and all associated regulatory and compliance provisions pertaining to letter of credit products and international trade practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of the Trade Finance line of business to include operations, technology, fulfillment, administration, risk management, and reporting related to the delivery of letters of credit and trade finance solutions to customers.
  • Development of distinctive Trade products and digitizing their journeys, with the aim of providing excellent customer service to the targeted client base via continuous process and platform improvement.
  • Responsible for driving the growth of the Trade Finance line of business by leading a team of Trade specialists, who together will offer best-in-class product and services to clients.
  • Work closely with Trade Sales and Foreign Exchange leaders in Capital Markets along with the Commercial, Consumer, and Wealth areas of the organization to effectively identify, manage, and execute on trade finance opportunities.
  • Work closely with the risk, compliance, operations and credit teams to ensure observance of policy and procedure guidelines throughout the full cycle of product provision, while ensuring adherence with all internal control paradigms.
  • Demonstrate an excellent ability to explain complex products simply with internal and external customers alike, with an emphasis to always outline the risks, opportunities, constraints, and flexibility of those offerings.
  • Develop and manage the framework for trade-based correspondent bank relationships, Swift and RMA key management, and country risk considerations.
  • Reports directly to the Managing Director of Capital Markets on the progress, potential, performance, and optimization of the organization's opportunities with Trade Finance.
  • Leads, coaches, and motivates employees through encouragement and reinforcement, to create a work environment that fosters teamwork, high morale, and retention.
  • Maintains continuous education through seminars, web events, and industry conferences to stay abreast of ever-changing trade industry products, strategies, trends, and regulations.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree with seven years or more of experience in the field.
  • Must have a deep expertise with international trade financing, collection instruments, and commercial documentation combined with a strong understanding of UCP600, ISP98, ISBP, URDG758 and INCOTERMS 2010 regulations and standards.
  • Mastery of the Swift platform, RMA key management, Correspondent Banking relationship considerations, and country and sanction risk management
  • Broad experience with all front-, middle-, and back-office requirements necessary to implement and operate a Trade Finance program, including mastery of the policy and procedure framework for the BSA/AML, Credit, Finance, and Operations functions.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger system functionality and basic accounting principles related to letters of credit.
  • Proficiency in using nCino, PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrated life experience as a unique leader of individuals and teams.
  • Must be comfortable growing a new business, with a proactive and visionary mindset.
  • Must enjoy building professional relationships.
  • Must be a great communicator - open to both learning and teaching others in order to help the business grow and do what is right for the customer.
  • Must be highly ethical, positive, and intellectually curious, with strong oral and written communication skills. The ability to remain calm and operate effectively under pressure, and a high degree of organization and attention to detail are imperative.
