Job Description
PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

Oversees and provides direction for Patient Access departments in Findlay, Bluffton, Carey and Call Center/Central Scheduling Departments.

Supports, monitors and maintains high levels of accuracy for patient demographic and insurance capture, timely patient scheduling. Ensures consistent patient advocacy and point of service collections while promoting a positive patient experience.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Oversees the daily operations of the Patient Access Department. Recommends and implements departmental policies, procedures, and staffing. Keeps abreast of federal, state, and local rules and regulations and assures compliance with such.

Duty 2: Oversees the daily operation of the BVHS Scheduling and Pre Service departments. Recommends and implements departmental policies, procedures, and staffing. Keeps abreast of federal, state, and local rules and regulations and assures compliance with such.

Duty3: Responsible for patient advocacy and patient pre service/point of service collections development and oversight.

Duty 4: Promotes an environment that fosters teamwork and positive employee morale. This includes, but is not limited to: rounding, team Idea board huddles, use of reward and recognition, and holding regular staff meetings

Duty 5: Offers and provides support and education to all areas that schedule and register patients.

Duty 6: Promotes an environment that fosters positive patient encounters and satisfaction.

Duty 7: Works with Human Resources to recruit, select, and train staff within the Patient Access and Scheduling Departments. Delegates the appropriate authority, responsibility, and accountability to staff for peer interviewing. Reviews associate performance, recognizing both good and substandard behavior. Rewards and coaches/counsels as necessary following appropriate steps to ensure positive change in performance and behaviors when necessary. This is inclusive of mid-year reviews, annual evaluations, and other performance reviews as deemed necessary. Initiates discipline as necessary.

Duty 8: Continually promotes and educates staff on Revenue Cycle targets. Collaborates with the Revenue Cycle and Clinical groups to ensure desired outcomes are reached.

Duty 9: Develops and monitors departmental budgets, including capital and operating budgets.

Duty10: Oversees systems used throughout the department to assure optimal usage. This includes but is not limited to Cerner, Kronos, Change Healthcare, Contact Center Client and Compliance Checker.

Duty 11: Assures confidentiality of patient information. Adheres to HIPAA standards and assures staff adheres to standards.

Duty 12: Continually address process improvement opportunities. Knowledgeable in the use of performance improvement tools and leads team(s) to make improvements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in businessor related field or significant experience in patient access
  • Registration and pre-registration experience
  • Proven PC literacy, specifically in Microsoft Office Programs
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines and stressful situations
  • Medical terminology, patient advocacy, pre-payment options and Insurance Exchange experience.
  • Demonstrated management skills in healthcare environment required with minimum of five (5) years management experience
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion. Individual must be able to sit four hours a day, walk two hours a day and stand two hours a day with intermittent lifting, bending and squatting. This position requires an individual to lift 50 pounds and reach work above the shoulders. Associate must have good eye/hand coordination with the ability to grasp, push and pull, fine finger dexterity and manipulation. This position requires corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The associate must have excellent verbal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers.
