Cornell College is accepting applications for the position of Director of Information Technology. The director will support the college community by providing vision and leadership in the development and implementation of the college's information technology platforms. This influential position directly impacts planning, implementation, and support of the institution’s major academic and administrative computing activities, voice, and data communications. The director works collaboratively with members of the Cornell community to create a tech environment that is user-focused, flexible, cost-effective, and secure. In this role you will lead a talented team of developers, technicians, and support staff to keep campus connected and up to date with the progressive technology necessary to run business efficiently and prepare our students for their future careers. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be the chief strategist and visionary for comprehensive IT planning and implementation, providing ongoing assessment and forecasts of the technology needs to meet the goals of faculty, staff, students, and other members of the Cornell community.
  • Take on responsibility for all aspects of information technology support for academic and administrative functions, including the campus-wide data and voice networks, software systems, server, networked personal computer environments, and IT support for faculty teaching.
  • Strategically manage relationships with external suppliers and negotiate beneficial contracts for the acquisition and maintenance of all systems hardware, software, and telecommunications to meet budgetary goals.
  • Build a strong customer service orientation within the IT organization to support faculty, staff, and students that includes job ticket management and regular project status reporting.  
  • Create an operational environment that is efficient (standards), planful (architecture), and secure (business continuity, security).
  • As a member of the President’s Council, advise on all policy and investment decisions related to technology, working in close collaboration with executive and administrative staff members in all units of the College.  
  • Develop and implement end user training programs for new software and systems and upgrades to current systems; communicate regularly with the campus community.
  • Serve as Data Protection Officer for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

A degree in a relevant field, preferably in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business administration, and at least eight years of progressively responsible experience as a director or assistant director of a complex information systems environment.

Successful candidates will have strategic management experience in information technology in a collaborative customer-service-focused environment.  In addition, substantial experience leading major network, systems, and data center technology organizations and projects is required along with a demonstrated ability to develop enterprise-technology architecture and to lead the implementation of major technology projects.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirement may be substituted.

Working Location & Conditions 

The position works in-person with the option for 1-2 days of remote work per week. Late afternoon, evening, and weekend work hours may be required. All requirements may be subject to change over time, with possible modifications made to reasonably accommodate individuals with a disability.

And, all full-time staff begin with a 4-week vacation accrual along with 14.5 paid holidays per year.  The hiring pay range for the position is $95,000 - $130,000.
