Position Overview:
This position provides strategic leadership and develops strategy for the delivery of crop and livestock insurance lines of business. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise on regulations related to these products. Leads the Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs) and referral partner relationships. Develops new insurance products, and is instrumental in strategic marketing direction, campaigns, and product positioning. Leads the efforts to develop, deploy, and modify proprietary products, including positioning with AIPs and other agencies. Responsible for sourcing and negotiating agency acquisitions.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and maintains relationships with multiple AIP partners at the regional and executive levels.
  • Negotiates commissions, volume commitments, and rates with AIPs annually.
  • Identifies training opportunities and provides feedback on actions to make AIP products more marketable.
  • Cultivates industry contacts and identifies ways to leverage relationships with Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs) for the purpose of increasing sales, improving efficiencies and creating acquisition opportunities.
  • Develops strategies and partners with Insurance Sales Leaders to reach Compeer's insurance growth goals.
  • Collaborates with Marketplace Development Operations to align strategies and implementation of processes.
  • Leads efforts to grow the crop insurance business via acquisition of agency books of business.
  • Communicates business expectations and goals to the team and is responsible for the team's results.
  • Aids in establishing and developing guidelines to ensure the team provides a consistent quality level of service, which is timely, thorough and responsive.
  • Responds and guides team members to respond to questions regarding the underwriting process, procedures and paperwork.
  • Provides training to internal team members regarding crop insurance products, positioning products and industry insight.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, agriculture or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an office environment preferred.
  • Three to five years of leadership experience, preferred.
  • Property & casualty license required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state (Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Expert knowledge of crop insurance regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Advanced skill in establishing and maintaining relationships with a variety of internal and external organizations and individuals to advance the organization's interests and increase personal efficacy.
  • Advanced skill in negotiating complex agreements to achieve the best outcome for the organization.
  • Advanced skill in growing a business.
  • Skill in analyzing current business processes and identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement.
  • Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Skill in balancing logic and intuition to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license.
