Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Advancement, the Director of Engagement and Events will lead the Mason School of Business's imperative to strategically engage alumni and donors in the life of the School through alumni and donor events, lifelong learning and thought leadership programming, classroom experiences, and corporate relationships. The overarching goal of the position is to develop and facilitate lifelong, strong relationships with alumni and friends of the school to support a robust Advancement Program.

The individual in this role will lead a team of associated engagement staff members execute a date-driven engagement program informed by industry best practices in both event and alumni engagement. The individual will be experienced in event management, knowledgeable of its best practices, and skilled in deploying technology to execute their mission.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to collaborate with a diverse community of business school and university partners to deliver high caliber alumni experiences. An overview of duties includes:

  • Lead the development, management, implementation, execution, and evaluation of the alumni engagement program for all Mason School constituents
  • Create an active alumni presence both on campus and in the major geographic markets of the school's alumni and donor population.
  • Develop and execute highly customized engagement plans for all alumni based on degree programs and other affinities.
  • Plans will support the strategy of the Advancement Team and will support the advancement philanthropic goals of the Mason School, prioritizing opportunities to engage donors.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Position may require hours beyond a typical 40 hour work week and early morning, evening, and weekend work.
  • Position may also require occasional overnight travel.
  • This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required with significant level of professional experience.
  • Significant experience (typically 5+ years) in alumni engagement, development, marketing/sales, customer service or related field
  • Knowledge of academic fundraising
  • Strong communication skills to solicit involvement
  • Excellent project management, marketing and ability to manage multiple projects exhibiting high level of organizational skills
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to train volunteers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Several years of work experience in higher education setting
  • Significant experience or knowledge in hospitality and business management
  • Proven ability to motivate, engage and work with alumni students and members of the W&M community.
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups and diverse audiences.

Advertised Pay Range:

Up to $85,000 based on experience & Internal alignment
