Description
The Nebraska Department of Transportation's Diesel Mechanic Internship is an opportunity for students currently enrolled in a Diesel Technology program to gain valuable work experience while completing their education. Opportunities are available statewide at multiple locations.

Interns will gain hands-on experience and develop their skills under the guidance of an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Mentor with the possibility of becoming a Diesel Mechanic with us upon graduation ($4,000 sign-on bonus included)!

Examples of Work
Under the supervision and guidance of an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Mentor, assist in troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines and heavy equipment. Assist in performing preventative maintenance. Assist in performing electrical and hydraulic repairs. Perform basic service tasks and related work as assigned. Comply with all safety measures and handle company tools and equipment properly. Complete all tasks efficiently and maintain a neat and orderly work area.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Must be currently enrolled and must have completed the first year of a 2-year degree program in diesel technology. Must have a valid Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of diesel technology, automotive maintenance, repair and service. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and follow directions. Self-motivated with a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to safely move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend or stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high speed traffic.
