Die Maker

Under minimal guidance and direction from the Operations Manager, the individual is qualified and accountable to make casting dies and repair or make new parts by using various precision measuring devices, hand tools and machining equipment. Individual may work from a variety of sketches, blueprints, drawings and SOP's when available. Individual will have, or will gain, a good understanding of the different grades of graphite and other materials used to make dies, and be proficient in the machining of all, including but not limited to turning and boring. Regularly operates multiple machines simultaneously. Recognizes operational irregularities on equipment or processes, accurately determines the cause of irregularities, and takes appropriate corrective action. Performs basic maintenance on all equipment in the die room.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Manufacture graphite casting dies from drawings, sketches, standard operating procedures (SOP), and other documents using available CNC and non-CNC equipment
  • Program, run and assist in maintenance of all machine shop equipment. This includes CNC and non-CNC lathes, mills, drill presses, and other supporting equipment
  • Maintain casting tooling to ensure uninterrupted production availability
  • Fabricate spare parts as needed to support machine shop, plant and maintenance functions
  • Support test specimen fabrication for plant's laboratory. Task includes training and assisting lab personnel in completion of this task
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of three years of CNC programming and set up experience - OR - CNC certification and one year of programming and set up experience
  • AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience a plus
  • Excellent shop math skills required
  • Must have practical computer knowledge and capability, including basic use of Excel
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to read and work from sketches, blueprints, drawings and SOP's
  • Must be able to correctly use calipers and gauges
  • Must be available on an on-call basis to cover work on nights & weekends as needed
