Responsibilities

This position is responsible for maintaining and providing the necessary analyses needed to assess and improveperformance across all areas of the organization by combining his or her knowledge of information systems,healthcare data and decision support applications with analytical and presentation skills to deliver the informationnecessary for effective clinical, operational, financial, and strategic decision making. This individual should use theirknowledge of business and clinical information to analyze data and create interactive visualizations and makerecommendations with the goal of strategically contributing to the strengthening of Wellstar Health System.

The role is expected to work independently as well as in team-based settings to gather requirements, determine andnavigate relevant data sources (both internal and external), and prepare the requested analyses and visualizations.He / she will design and develop analyses or visualizations in partnership with BI analysts in the EI Department andother teams across WellStar that best provides the necessary accurate, verifiable, and actionable information on atimely basis. This includes reviewing relevant clinical, operational, financial, and strategic reports to identify andunderstand variances/gaps in performance and participate in corrective action plans. This may require themanagement of small to mid-size projects as needed.

The Decision Scientist will engage at the intersection of data, technology, visualization, clinical practice, operations,and internal strategy to help inform Wellstar's most critical needs. This individual will work across the organization toserve as a thought partner and data expert to help advise and develop data-driven models, decisions, algorithms,visualizations, and tools.

As a Decision Scientist, you will:• Serve as a cross-functional consultant to inform clinical, operational, financial, and strategic questions. Thiscould include uncovering a problem, identifying data sources, elements, definitions, and calculations toquantify the problem, synthesizing findings and solutions, analyzing the business case and tradeoffs, andmanaging the implementation of recommendations.• Serve as a primary analytics partner across the organization to help teams make the best evidence-baseddecisions by deeply understanding trends, advising on appropriate and meaningful analyticalmethods/practices, collecting data and building statistical models.• Identify trends by mining and analyzing structured and unstructured data and run descriptive, predictive, andprescriptive analyses.• Aggregate data from disparate sources to help identify areas for clinical, operational, financial, and strategicperformance improvement, growth, and optimization.• Design, develop and deploy statistical analysis and other algorithms to improve outcomes

Incorporate Lean/Agile problem-solving methodology and tools into analyses and visualizations and projectmanagement.• Lead special projects as identified
Qualifications

Required Minimum Education:Masters degress in Data Science, Decision Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, or relatedquantitative field

Required Minimum Experience:5+ years of experience in decision science, data science, analytics, or a related technical role.Proven business experience with a scripting language like Python or R, SQL, Excel, and BI Tools (Tableau a plus).Demonstrated to be analytical, intellectually curious, and an excellent problem-solver who is comfortable working withmessy and/or unstructured data and translating clinical questions into discernable data requests.Experience in modeling, statistics, and optimization.Has leveraged unique datasets to develop new and innovative insights that help drive clinical and/or businessoutcomes.Experience and familiarity working with healthcare specific data (e.g., Clinical, Quality, Operational, and Financial),concepts and terminology.

Required Minimum Certification: n/a

Required Minimum Skills:Understanding of statistics (e.g., hypothesis testing, regressions, etc.)Statistical and data analysis/modeling skills (e.g., significance testing, regression modeling, etc.)Ability to manipulate data sets through statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, Alteryx) or other methods.Strong written and oral communication skills - you can build analytical and decision support models, synthesizerecommendations, and create effective presentations for all audiences.Team player mindset, with strong interpersonal, storytelling and influencing skills
