General Summary:
The primary responsibilities of the CSM Machine Shop Manager in the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) are to launch the CSM Machine Shop after its relocation and to ensure its uninterrupted and sustainable operations. The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for fulfilling the equipment-related needs of the CSM research and teaching enterprise with special consideration for other units of the University as appropriate. The CSM Machine Shop Manager works closely with CSM faculty, research-related staff, and graduate students to design, machine, and construct one-of-a-kind scientific instruments and mechanical devices. The Machine Shop Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the Machine Shop operates in compliance with all applicable standards, laws, and regulations. The Machine Shop Manager will participate in establishing a comprehensive institutional model to enable the CSM to better serve the relevant educational, prototyping, and fabricating needs of CSM as well as the broader University community. The Machine Shop Manager is also expected to proactively assist the CSM faculty with effectively utilizing the CSM Machine Shop as a vehicle to teach and learn practical skills that are becoming increasingly important on the job market. Additionally, the Machine Shop Manager will work closely with the CSM leadership to help identify and realize operational synergies and resource development opportunities among the Machine Shop, MakerSpace, Venture Development Center, and other relevant internal and external partners and collaborators. The position requires the ability to balance both technicinal and managerial skills.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field with a minimum of seven years of experience as research, prototype or experimental machinist or machine shop manager; relevant Master's degree is preferred.
