Your Role:

As a Corporate Patent Counsel, you will deliver excellent work and superior service to the organization by providing highly efficient and effective intellectual property support and counseling as part of a growing international patent department.

Who you are:

  • Reporting to the Head of Patents Performance Materials US, you will be responsible for:
    • Patent Preparation and Prosecution: The full range of patent preparation and prosecution duties, including preparing, prosecuting, maintaining, and enforcing intellectual property in the US and foreign jurisdictions.
    • Legal Counseling: Providing consultation to Research and Business partners in complex patent issues, including infringement and patentability.
    • Freedom to Operate: Ensuring freedom to operate for all new products and processes.
    • Technical Agreements: Assisting in the preparation of business-related agreements (CDAs, MTAs, JDAs and Licenses)
  • Your role, as part of the Company's global patent function, utilizes harmonized systems and combines both local and global responsibilities.
  • You will exhibit a strong understanding of business needs, be able to work in cross-functional teams, and be capable of independently managing assigned portfolios.
  • This position can be located in Tempe, AZ or Carlsbad, CA.

Minimum requirements:
  • BS or higher in Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline.
  • Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • 5+ years of experience in Patent Preparation and Prosecution.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Background in integrated circuits and semiconductor industry preferred (e.g., polymer chemistry, lithography, resists, antireflective coatings, direct self-assembly, dielectric materials, deposition materials, electronic solders).
  • Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English. Ability to communicate in another language is helpful but not required.
  • Excellent Software and Systems skills and knowledge required (MS Word, Office365, Adobe Acrobat, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Practical knowledge of query building software.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Travel Requirements: Some travel (5-10%) including international.
