Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: JLR Multicultural Center Coordinator

Reporting under the Associate Director/Interim Manager of the Multicultural Center, the Coordinator for JLR Multicultural Center at Eastern Washington University is tasked with creating and supporting an inclusive and equitable social and learning community at EWU for students of color and marginalized students. The Coordinator directly supports the JLR Multicultural Center and will work in tandem with the Student Affairs coordinated care case managers to ensure that students of color and marginalized students receive the holistic support services that can enhance their academic performance and degree completion.

The Coordinator is vital to supporting and implementing the overall vision of Eagle Care, EWU's coordinated care network, and each will be tasked to lead specific events/projects to achieve the duties summarized above. These positions are essential to the implementation and promotion an equity-minded lens within the Student Affairs division and the broader university community.

This is a new position at the university, and we are looking for people willing to take initiative and be creative.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience, including at least one (1) year of experience advising students. [Internship, volunteer, or related work that is commensurate with two years of professional experience, including at least one (1) year of experience advising students may substitute.]
  • High level of cultural humility and experience working effectively with marginalized populations.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and planning events and activities.
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Social Science, Student Affairs/Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of theories and practices related to social justice, intersectionality, and/or college student development.
  • Experience with assessment and design of learning outcomes.
  • Experience with academic advising/coaching, student retention, or professional mentorship.

Responsibility / Duty: Student Support and Advocacy
  • Provide direct support to students of color, first-generation students, undocumented students, and other marginalized student populations to help them navigate and overcome social, financial, and/or health obstacles that can delay or prevent the successful completion of their degree. Adopt intervention strategies as needed.
  • Provide direct support to the Multicultural Center staff in planning, assessing, and creating content for training and programing initiatives for academic advising teams, faculty, and other campus stakeholders around effective support strategies for marginalized students.
  • Proactively serve marginalized students who are referred to the centers by Student Affairs case managers. Regularly communicate with students to monitor their progress and offer continued support and care.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of internal and external resources for marginalized students.

Responsibility / Duty: Program Coordination and Evaluation
  • Plan, coordinate, assess and evaluate programs on behalf of the Multicultural Center that promote the recruitment, retention, and matriculation of underrepresented students, including cultural graduation ceremonies, cultural heritage months, C.O.R.E.S signature events and Eagle F.A.M. (Familiar, Affirm, Matter).
  • Assist in the development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of program initiatives that provide students with skills to navigate predominantly white academic classrooms and institutional structures.
  • Collect, assess, evaluation, prepare and distribute reports (quarterly/annually) of JLR MC daily activity, programs and initiatives for campus stakeholders.
  • Create/Edit/Approve social media content in-line with Marketing Communication guidelines promoting the JLR Multicultural Center and endorsed/supported.

Responsibility / Duty: University and Divisional Service
  • Actively participate in projects and activities to support the mission and objectives of the JLR Multicultural Center and Eagle Care.
  • Attend staff/unit meetings and Student Affairs divisional meetings.
  • Participate in committees and projects as needed.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Responsibility / Duty:
  • Create/Edit/Approve social media and JLR MC webpage content in-line with Marketing Communication guidelines promoting the JLR Multicultural Center and endorsed/supported programing, initiatives, and affiliated campus partners, student clubs, and academic units.
  • Train, Supervise, Schedule, and Manage up to four student office assistants. Monitor student staff in the daily operation/coordination/use of facilities. Assign tasks, projects, and responsibilities as needed for programs/initiatives/events sponsored by JLR MC.
  • Receive, approve, and confirm JLR MC room reservations through EAGLE SYNC software. Assist/Manage/Promote usage of the JLR MC to student clubs for events, programs, and initiatives.

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
This position is covered by the Public School Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Information: The salary for this position is $43,988 (minimum) up to $55,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.
