Job Role Summary

The Cook II - SEMHCproduces/prepares all food items assigned in timely manner and in amounts/quantities equal to patient and menu requirements. This position is responsible for safe, sanitary handling of all food, safe usage and sanitation of all equipment, cleans equipment and work area used during the workday.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Prepares food for patients according to menus/recipes and in amounts specified on menus
  • Prepares special diet items for patients according to menu. Sets up cafeteria line, patient tray line with prepared foods
  • Responsible for safe, sanitary handling of all food, safe usage and sanitation of all equipment, cleans equipment and work area used during the workday
  • Produces/prepares all food items assigned in timely manner and in amounts/quantities equal to patient and menu requirements
  • Controls disease, infection by daily inspecting food item for defects, irregularities in odor, color, taste, reports it to Supervisor and Chef/Manager, Food Production
  • Contains cost by returning all food items not used in proper place
  • Utilizes personal hygiene to avoid food contamination that includes effective hair restraints, clean, neat uniforms
  • Places orders for food and manages the organization and storage

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) including courses in food preparation, cooking plus
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience dealing with quantity food preparation and cooking
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience may be accepted in lieu of educational requirement

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of/ability to use measuring devices, cooking equipment (i.e., steam pots, grill, slicing machine, stoves, oven, etc.)
  • Ability to use age appropriate communication skills
  • Knowledge of safe, sanitary use of equipment
  • Ability to maintain sanitary conditions, and knowledge of health laws
  • Age appropriate cognitive abilities, skills, techniques and communications are detailed in the department/area/unit job specific/age specific competencies
  • Effective verbal and written skills
  • Working knowledge of health laws in performing essential job duties relating to food preparation/storage.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions/directions, recipes for proper food preparation and storage
  • Knowledge of dietary equipment in order to utilize safe cleaning procedures.
  • Complete CPR training
  • Complete CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training
