Position Overview:

The Control Systems Engineer (CSE) - Projects provides technical assurance to Capital Project initiatives at Motiva's Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex (PAMC). This role ensures Field Equipment, Control Systems, and Automation strategies are designed utilizing Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practice (RAGAGEP) and conforms to Engineering Standards (Corporate and Industry).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop initial scoping narratives and create Front End Loading documents for Capital Projects that require Instrumentation and/or Control Systems.
  • Help the respective project teams assess/select various project control system options to determine the best fit for purpose solution.
  • Provide guidance to Engineering Contractors to ensure agreed upon project deliverables and specifications are produced.
  • Review engineering designs (P&IDs, Control/Logic Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, instrument spec sheets, valve specifications, orifice calculations, etc.) as produced by Contractors for accuracy and conformance to Motiva and Industry standards.
  • Work with Motiva disciplines to ensure control schemes and equipment meet requirements.
  • Lead Factory and Site acceptance testing to ensure programming accuracy and completeness.
  • Facilitate integration of new equipment into the existing Control System Infrastructure (cyber secure network architecture, Distributed control systems, Safety Instrumented Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, third party controlling devices, historian/monitoring applications, etc.)
  • Develop deviation approval documents for any system or specification not meeting Engineering Standard requirements.
  • Develop project specific training for Run/Maintain CSEs, Inspectors, maintenance, and operating personnel as required.

Experience and Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher education in Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience working in Control Systems (Field Instrumentation, DCS, SIS, etc.) in an industrial or project environment
  • Knowledge of industry Control System standards
  • Knowledge and awareness of industry instrumentation best practices and/or corporate policy requirements
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong decision-making abilities and the capacity to navigate complex initiatives
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus, resolve conflicts, and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience working in Control Systems (Field Instrumentation, DCS, SIS, etc.) in an industrial or project environment

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to safely work on industrial equipment
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
