Summary Statement

The City of Boise Parks and Recreation Department is hiring an energetic and motivated individual to work with elementary youth at our Kid City after-school program! Community/Recreation Center Attendant responsibilities include engaging and leading youth in social and active games, mentoring and demonstrating positive social skills, and ensuring the safety and well-being of after-school Kid City youth. Work schedules are flexible and ideal for students. As a Community/Recreation Center Attendant, you will run games and activities while leading youth through the daily program schedule. Kid City provides a variety of outlets for participants, including organized sports, quality art projects, wellness activities, homework assistance, field trips, STEM opportunities, performing arts, computer use, and a healthy snack.

This position:
Community Center Recreation Attendant

  • Pays $13/hr
  • Supervises youth age 6-11 and 12-17 in afterschool programs at one of the City's school school-based community centers: Grace Jordan, Morley Nelson, Whitney, Garfield, Hawthorne, Taft, and Jefferson, Whittier (to be determined by supervisor)
  • Assists program supervisor and staff in coordinating age-appropriate activities
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of all community center afterschool participants
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • This position is designated as At-Will
  • This position will be posted until filled

Essential Functions

Community Center Recreation Attendant
Prepares materials and supplies for youth arts and crafts projects and assists participants when necessary. (40%)
Encourages and engages youths in a variety of indoor and outdoor group recreational activities such as basketball, tag, and tetherball. (40%)
Makes sure equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement. (20%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 100%

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • One year of experience volunteering or working with youths and/or teens in a daycare, sports league, afterschool program, or similar environment
Ability
  • Provide basic instruction to youths, participate in mild-to-moderate recreational activities/sports
  • Recognize and redirect misbehavior
  • Work independently with limited supervision; exercise considerable judgment and discretion (We will add some additional standardized requirements)
  • Interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience working with youths or teens as a coach, instructor, teacher's aide, or nanny
  • City of Boise daycare license
  • Certified in CPR

    • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process RegulationDrug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug-Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hiring. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is frequently loud and occasionally moderate. Work includes the sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.
