Purpose and Scope:
This commodity manager position is responsible for managing logistics procurement (inbound, intercompany, and outbound) as well as other general procurement commodities across the entire TMST supply chain.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and implement a procurement logistics strategy with the right processes, technology, and logistics infrastructure in place to maximize efficiency and ensure the company can deliver a quality product to its customers.
  • Identify elements of risk to achieving the procurement logistics strategy, evaluate their probability of occurrence, estimate the financial impact in the event of a problem, and prioritize any risks for appropriate monitoring and measures of prevention
  • Develop and implement best practice procurement logistics principles, processes, and policies (company-wide) and review regularly to ensure compliance, efficiency, and currency
  • Using market intelligence negotiate with carriers the rates and proper T&C's that support the overall logistics strategy for TMST. Including but not limited to legal T&C's, insurance, safety requirements as well as procurement and operational KPI's
  • Provide a balanced portfolio of carriers to support the overall logistics strategy
  • Set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for carrier accountability (among other metrics), analyzing data collected over time, and implementing process improvements wherever possible
  • Lead regular reviews with third-party logistics provider to optimize opportunities, benchmark and discuss service level performance
  • Develop and enforce carrier compliance with terms set forth in carrier contract, industry regulations and internal policies
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with carriers to support TMST operations
  • Negotiate with rail providers to control demurrage, rates, service, etc.
  • Negotiate contracts with TMST Plant services suppliers to provide the best overall TCO to TMST
  • Negotiate capital projects to secure favorable price, payment terms and ensure performance targets are documented in the P.O. to ensure performance targets are achieved during commissioning prior to issuing final payment.
  • Responsible for the strategic sourcing, commercialization, supplier development, purchase and contract management of TMST and MRO providers
  • Lead current production cost reduction and new program sourcing for the assigned commodities, including issuing and analyzing RFQs
  • Process purchase orders and ensure that supplier is meeting delivery dates
  • Assist in developing and executing sourcing strategies and optimize total supplier performance (cost, quality, & delivery)
  • Lead, manage and execute data collection, validation, analysis, and negotiation activities for the assigned commodities
  • Assist with ongoing supplier assessment and performance review meetings, monitor effectiveness of strategy, and make changes
  • Participate in process improvements with the team to develop and implement best practices
  • Monitor supply markets, trends, and forecasts

Key Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Strong understanding of transportation industry and logistics
  • Experience with implementing Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
  • Experience in analyzing metrics and data-driven decision making
  • Proven ability to consistently deliver on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Proven ability to design and execute a supply chain strategy
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain with 12 years of work experience in logistics or supply chain-related fields within a manufacturing environment, as well as skills in budgeting and strategy, managing third-party logistics (3PL) provider relationships.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters in in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain with 10 years' experience in Logistics or supply chain-related fields within a manufacturing environment, as well as skills in budgeting and strategy, managing third-party logistics (3PL) provider relationships.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule and could be eligible for relocation
