The Collection Management & Circulation Services Librarian provides leadership and vision for the ongoing management of the Library's print and other physical collections, including both local storage and retrieval of collections as well as participation in various shared print repository and management networks. The position works to ensure access to and stewardship of the Library's physical collections in the larger context of efforts to develop and support consortial \"collective collections\" and print retention initiatives among academic libraries more broadly.

The Collection Management & Circulation Services Librarian works with Collection Development, Technical Services, Preservation Services and subject specialists to develop strategies for managing the growth and storage of the Library's physical collections, including developing criteria for the transfer and weeding of materials to and from Regenstein and Mansueto, as well as providing support to other libraries' collection management needs. This position works closely with others to manage current shared print commitments and to explore future options for on-campus, off-site, and shared print storage options.

The Collection Management & Circulation Services Librarian also provides direction and leadership for the delivery of circulation services related to physical collections and spaces in the Joseph Regenstein Library and the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, including service points, paging and retrieval, collection maintenance, and the delivery of "space as service" (e.g., space reservations, wayfinding, access, and safety), as well as the software platforms that support these services.
Reporting to the Director of Access Services, the Collection Management & Circulation Services Librarian oversees the Head of Regenstein Circulation & Building Resources, the Head of Mansueto Circulation & ASRS Operations, and the Regenstein Collection Maintenance & Retrieval unit, as well as provides expertise in managing these areas.

Responsibilities:
• Analyzes and reports on physical collection growth patterns across Library collections
• Directs and manages the transfer of collections within and out of Regenstein and oversees significant transfers of physical collections from all libraries into Mansueto, Regenstein, or other Library spaces
• Represents the Library in various shared print committees and working groups, including the BTAA Shared Print Repository and IPLC high-density storage affinity group
• Explores and recommends storage solutions, including owned facilities, rented space, and collaborative arrangements
• Serves as a subject matter expert and represents the Library in collaborative software development efforts such as the FOLIO Library Services Platform
• Oversees the Paging & Pickup service and collaborates with staff at all libraries to ensure the successful delivery of the service to Library patrons
• Oversees the delivery of innovative and inclusive circulation services at the Joseph Regenstein and Joe and Rika Mansueto libraries
• Identifies service, space, technology, and staffing needs for future development in areas of responsibility and participates in Library planning regarding those needs
• Communicates within and outside the Library regarding collections, access, and circulation, including ensuring that the Library's public website remains current in those areas
• Leads and manages departmental staff and inter-departmental teams

Qualifications

Required

  • Master of Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an administrative position that includes successful management and supervision of personnel, as well as demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Preferred:
  • Significant and progressively responsible experience engaging with and managing physical collections, circulation services, and library spaces at a major academic institution
  • Demonstrated understanding of storage and retrieval systems (including automated), print storage best practices, print retention agreements, and analysis of collection growth patterns in an academic library setting
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team-oriented environment and to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse colleagues, faculty, staff, and students
  • Professional engagement in collection management and circulation services at the local, regional, consortial, national, and international level
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in providing services
  • Evidence of a strong and inclusive user service philosophy, and commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Ability to advise on hardware and software selection and implementation as a part of continuous innovative service development
  • Experience in the development of library open-source systems and solutions, especially the FOLIO library management system
  • Prior experience with managing collections using the Dematic Automated Storage and Retrieval System
