GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Massachusetts General Hospital for Children Division of Pediatric Global Health and MGH Center for Immigrant Health are seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with both clinical research and administrative management. In this unique position, the Clinical Research Coordinator will support the research conducted in the Division of Pediatric Global Health as well as provide administrative management and assist with program development within the MGH Center for Immigrant Health.

Faculty projects within the Division of Pediatric Global Health include: (1) studies of HIV exposed uninfected children, (2) studies of childhood pneumonia, and (3) studies of childhood enteric diseases, undernutrition, and obesity. While these projects address a diverse range of diseases, they find common ground in that they aim to understand and/or ameliorate important health disparities among the most vulnerable pediatric populations.

In addition to providing administrative support for the Center for Immigrant Health, the Clinical Research Coordinator will have the opportunity to contribute to the Center's program development, clinical protocols, and care pathways in resource navigation, medical-legal partnerships, nutrition, and mental health programming. The Clinical Research Coordinator will work to support the center's administrative duties, including organizing an annual inclusivity campaign and collaborating with partner centers and institutions.

It is anticipated the position will involve 2-3 primary projects and several smaller ad hoc projects as they arise. The primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Maintaining, organizing, and analyzing demographic, clinical and laboratory data as needed.
  • Preparation of IRB and grant materials including careful maintenance of all documentation.
  • Support the program development of the MGH Center for Immigrant Health and contribute to related projects as needed.
  • Support the six pillars of the MGH Center for Immigrant Health as outlined below:
    • Resource development and navigation
    • Clinical programming
      • Mental health
      • Nutrition
    • Education
    • Research / Quality Improvement
    • Advocacy
    • Inclusivity

Critical thinking, independence, superb organization skills, and a strong sense of accountability are of utmost importance in this position and are required to succeed. Given the human subjects research focus, ability to handle confidential information is also a requirement. The candidate must demonstrate analytical skills, ability to resolve technical problems, analyze data, and would benefit from a working knowledge of data management programs and statistical software. Writing ability and communication skills are also essential. This position is well suited for an individual interested in pursuing graduate studies or a career in the fields of medicine, public health, or clinical research.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Research related to the Division of Pediatric Global Health and Center for Immigrant Health:
  • Collects, organizes, maintains, and analyzes demographic, clinical and laboratory data, records, and databases.
  • Uses software to generate graphs and reports.
  • Conducts library/literature searches.
  • Assists with regulatory binders and QA/QC procedures.
  • Verifies subject inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Develops, and evaluates data from questionnaires.
  • Assists with study regulatory submissions.
  • Drafts study forms, including consent and case report forms.
  • Develops and implements recruitment strategies.
  • Monitors and evaluates lab and procedure data.
  • Contributes to protocol recommendations.
  • Assists with preparation of annual reviews of ongoing studies.
  • Assists with preparation study reports.
  • Assists with grant preparation and administration.
  • Provides project related administrative support duties as required.
  • Clinical protocol development.

Administrative duties related to the Division of Pediatric Global Health and Center for Immigrant Health:
  • Manages communications and schedules meetings via email.
  • Develops and maintains collaborations with institutional and community-based partners.
  • Assists with implementation of clinical programming.
  • Expense report completion.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree required.

EXPERIENCE:

New graduates with some relevant course/project work or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Clinical Research Coordinator position outlined above.
