Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist, under general direction, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day patient care activities of a specified clinical practice, ensuring adherence established clinical policies, protocols, regulations, and standards. Coordinates services with other patient care units, as appropriate, and provides direct patient evaluation and consultation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Monitors and coordinates the daily patient care activities of the unit; schedules staff and patients to ensure full coverage of patient care needs at all times and to ensure effective patient services.
  • Provides triage advice and guidance to physicians and staff referring patients to the clinic; oversees and monitors patient evaluation and treatment decisions.
  • Supervises the work of employees in supporting roles.
  • Participates in program development and in development and implementation of operating policy and procedure.
  • Oversees and provides direct nursing evaluation and/or other related care and consultation to patients as required.
  • Coordinates services with other patient care units as required; maintains communication with allied services and maintains community liaison as appropriate.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Obtains or develops oncology-related education materials for patients, caregivers and staff.
    Qualifications
    Education
    • A Master's degree in Nursing is required.
    • A CNS designation by state.
    Experience
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Oncology nursing is required.
    • Outpatient Medical Oncology experience is preferred.
    • Prior ambulatory experience is preferred.
