Position Summary

MFA IS&T is seeking an experienced Ancillary Applications Manager to lead the team responsible for the clinical applications environments that exist within the Epic-centric ecosystem, including medical devices, imaging, scheduling, and analysis systems.

This team works with the system engineering teams to ensure that all application services are functional, secure, and recoverable on a consistent basis. The clinical application team maintains the application infrastructure and is responsible to conduct end-user clinical application training, resolve end-user clinical application issues, and performing any projects necessary to maintain the environment. This includes hardware, software, and storage updates for any clinical systems.

This position is also responsible for clinical application support. This includes maintaining the internal security processes for all clinical applications and PHI storage and transmission. This individual would be required to maintain an inventory of all PHI locations, and ensure that the application, data, and storage for PHI conform to all legal requirements and industry best practices. This individual would also be responsible for developing and maintaining adequate testing and validation processes for all clinical applications and would oversee maintaining the Virtual test servers for all clinical applications. This person should be familiar with industry best practices for enterprise production environments, including standards-based processes for the server and storage equipment life cycle (implementation, change control, backups, disaster recovery, business continuity, and retirement.)

This position requires proven management experience, a high level of technical ability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A team-oriented individual with good oral and written skills is required for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and Implement processes for application operational controls and monitoring.
  • Audit application usage, access, and security standards, including maintaining the provisioning and de-provisioning of account access.
  • Monitor and plan for application system and storage needs, including participation in hardware upgrades and migration
  • Monitor system and application security and access levels to ensure appropriateness to institutional roles.
  • Develop and maintain application continuity plans.
  • Create and maintain platform roadmaps that keep clinical systems secure and current, and address chronic user issues.
  • Work with Internal Audit groups to maintain compliance with the clinical applications infrastructure.
  • Proactively raise issues if specifications, architecture, or implementation strategies will lead to quality or system performance issues or problems.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, and functional specification reviews, and contribute to ongoing project estimates, scheduling, test plans, and code reviews.
  • Demonstrate a self-directed and proactive approach to tackling problems and leveraging team resources consistent with the overall goals of projects.
  • The planning and timely execution of non-disruptive projects, including the maintenance and expansion of all clinical applications. This includes the production of professional project plans with specific deliverables, timelines, and matrix-managed resources.
  • Mentor and recommend training for team members as well as members of other MFA groups.
  • Maintain relationships with clinical application vendors. This includes tracking issues and aggressively testing and pursuing timely resolutions to production vendors.
  • Maintain good relationships with all MFA's sites and staff. This includes proactive, documented
  • communications on all issues, and conduct that reflect MFA's Core Values.
Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in management, healthcare informatics, or a related field.
    Experience
    • A minimum of 3 years of clinical applications management experience in an enterprise environment.
    • Experience with clinical systems including or like Epic, Onbase, Optum, Dragon, Viewpoint, and Midmark.
    • Experience with Clinical Interface systems such as Intersystems, and infrastructure platforms such as VMware ESX and VMware Horizon VDI.
    • SQL Administration experience a plus.
    • Windows system administration experience is a plus.
    • Experience in defining and implementing clinical applications and processes.
    • Knowledge of current issues in healthcare technology and related fields.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated commitment to producing high-quality documentation.
    • Ability to work well with others across many organizational groups.
    • Experience working with Epic in a Healthcare IT environment is strongly preferred
    • Strong writing skills
    • Cloud experience is preferred
