Requisition #:617513
Location:Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, MD 21044
Category:Non-Clinical Professional
Schedule:Day Shift

The Johns Hopkins Academic Medicine System has the only accredited Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), Inc. CPE program in Baltimore. The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center encompass the System CPE center.

The focus of learning in CPE is gaining new skills and tools for ministry while identifying particular gifts and goals for ministry. The group dynamics are supplemented by presentations from the Hopkins interdisciplinary team in order for CPE students to familiarize themselves with the health care environment, as well as lectures using behavioral sciences and theological reflection. CPE at Johns Hopkins is based upon adult learning theories that allow the student to direct the educational process. CPE students work in collaboration with their peer group, certified CPE educators and the staff chaplains to achieve their education goals.

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is an experience in process education that has been honed over several decades and remains responsive to cultural developments that facilitate pastoral growth. The heart of CPE is ministry with the sick, injured, and dying, and learning from that ministry. CPE students learn through reflection, discussion, and evaluation, and are able to apply their learning in future ministry experiences. This type of adult learning is accomplished with other CPE students and a certified CPE supervisor in a dynamic, small group setting.

Johns Hopkins is looking for our next group of Chaplain Resents for the CPE program. Our program will start in August, 2023 and will run one (1) year. To apply to the program, you will need to complete our online application as well as the CPE application. Instructions on the application process can be found at https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/spiritualcare/education/how_to_apply.html.
