Overview

The purpose of the Power Bi Developer is designing, developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions. To craft and execute queries upon request for data and presenting information through reports and visualization. This role will work directly for an Underwriting business until building

Responsibilities

• In-depth expertise of the Power BI application, including both report creation and Power BI performance optimization
• Working Knowledge of Data Modeling
• Ability to translate requirements into report specifications
• Proficiency with SAS/BASE (Data step programming) and SAS/SQL
• Demonstrable experience and techniques working to source and join large and disparate data sets from upstream systems
• Performance tuning data acquisition and data preparation queries to ensure execution times are optimal and acceptable
• Good understanding of data architecture principles, including data access patterns and data modelling
• Previous experience in Insurance organizations is an advantage
• Previous experience working with Underwriters and Actuaries in an Insurance setting is an advantage
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Relational databases - The limits of working with the table schema of the database developer make understanding relational databases important.
• Strong skills in data extraction and analysis
• Basic programming skills - Due to the underlying scripting language in reporting software, a basic foundation in programming is needed.
• Reporting software familiarity - Business intelligence (BI) professionals should have a general understanding of the underlying theory and application of key reporting software on the market.
• Analysis skills - In business intelligence, analytics is a subset involving statistics, prediction and optimization - a means to business knowledge discovery. It can involve anything from data mining to predictive modeling to prescriptive analytics.
• Macro-perspective - Adopting a different perspective or mindset - broader and more team-oriented with an eye to impact on the enterprise - is also critical to success in the business intelligence space.
• Exposure to SharePoint, SalesForce is preferred

Qualifications

• 3-5 Years SQL and/or SAS Experience
• Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist
• Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining
• Strong abilities designing and developing visualization solutions
• Basic programming skills preferred - Due to the underlying scripting language in reporting software, a basic foundation in programming is needed.
• Experience in user mapping and security setup in PowerBI
• Must possess good concepts in Business Intelligence and Data warehousing
• Must have good analytical and communication skills
• Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
