Job Description

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Designing, executing, and delivering insight studies, including in-field observation, to uncover customer needs and "jobs to be done" that will guide product solutions
  • Representing the voice of the customer in all workstreams
  • Driving empathy-first approaches during the ideation and idea refinement stages of our product development, by creating close working partnerships with designers and engineers
  • Conducting regular consumer & trend immersions and leading the development of research briefs, working with research partners to create inventive and inspiring experiences so that the learnings are intuitively embraced and actively inform product workstreams
  • Generating and then distilling multiple, complex data sets and field observations into key insights, in support of leadership meetings
  • Partnering closely with product management, engineering, strategy and finance to drive RWOW as central to the development of future BrightDrop product solutions
  • Taking frequent initiative in discovering and curating consumer and category trends and their strategic implications
  • Building strong, two-way relationships with BrightDrop product managers, ensuring a collaborative approach to foundational insights, innovation, analytics, and data tracking
  • Acting as an internal champion of the Human Centered Insights team to ensure our capabilities are being fully leveraged and iteratively improved
  • Providing key insights and execution guardrails for new initiatives
  • Travel as required in support of the above; we anticipate a minimum of 15% travel

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a start-up environment or demonstrated comfort with ambiguity
  • Culturally curious & passionate about behavioral sciences - must have a global mindset, ravenous appetite for trends, culture and human behavior
  • Creative problem solver with a highly organized approach to managing complexity - an out-of-the-box thinker, able to think creatively & holistically, must be comfortable with high levels of complexity and open-ended questions
  • Storytelling - a clear communicator, who can deliver findings in an engaging, fresh and impactful manner, cutting through complexity to tell a simple, compelling narrative
  • Analytical horsepower - able to cut to the core of issues efficiently, merge multiple data sources and develop multiple solutions to complex business problems
  • Reliable multi-tasking - strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously & ability to adapt to change
  • Strong initiative and results orientation, with a positive and pragmatic attitude to adversity
  • This position is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in the United States

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years in insights, planning, client-side innovation roles and/or marketing & innovation consultant roles
  • Experience in custom consumer research with balance of qualitative and quantitative
  • 3+ years experience in design research & design thinking, qualitative exploration of JTBD/use case development, and product concept writing
  • 1-2 years of experience managing a team of at least 3 employees as your direct reports
  • Excellent coaching skills, the ability to inspire teams, and deep empathy for team members and ultimate product users
  • Prior knowledge of 3PL industry and/or eCommerce preferred
  • 3+ years of experience of co-facilitating & designing creative thinking workshops preferred
  • Experience working closely with designers, product managers and engineers preferred
