Job Description
MV Transportation is seeking a Behind the Wheel Trainer who will provide behind the wheel instruction and direction to operators and operator candidates.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide behind the wheel course instruction to new operator candidates according to the project training schedule. Key areas of instruction include defensive driving, passenger relations, loading/unloading and securement, map reading and navigation, manifest completion, pre-and post-trip inspection, handling emergency situations, and dispatch communications.
  • Ensure that all operators are fully trained prior to being released into revenue service.
  • Provide assistance to operators with concerns/questions regarding behind the wheel operations.
  • Conduct on-board evaluations and in service training to operators according to schedule and/or need.
  • Provide feedback to Safety Manager, Operations Manager and other appropriate staff regarding training needs.
  • Provide monthly or annual ongoing/refresher training in topics relevant to the service and service area and in a timely manner.
  • Assist training department in identifying additional or refresher training needs based on current trends within the employee base.
  • Ensure a fully-equipped complement of vehicle operators to provide service according to the contract guidelines.
  • Document all training activities and ensure accurate completion of all training related employee records.
  • Establish relationships with key client agency personnel to identify additional training needs, resources and opportunities.
  • Provide feedback and follow up for operator performance reviews and identify individual training needs where necessary.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and appearance promoting similar expectation from operations staff.
  • Promote team environment and safety focus amongst all employees.
  • Provide operations assistance in the event of emergency or accident including controlling the scene and/or transporting passengers or operators to and from scene.

Talent Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous professional driving experience in current or similar operations, previous training experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent service and safety record in operations
  • Must be licensed to operate all vehicles in fleet
  • Knowledge of service area and training program requirements
  • Ability to provide instruction to peer operators in a manner that encourages communication and feedback
  • Knowledge of local training program and local operations
  • familiarization with service area
  • knowledge of project specific vehicles, components and data/communications systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with all departments
  • Ability to work independently and objectively
