Job Description

Flexion is recruiting a Back End Engineer for our Software client in St. Paul. In this position, you'll be working as a member of the development team to help design, build and test
platform components, platform integrations, new features and bug fixes. Your primary focus will be to work on back-end functionality within our client's platform and to assist with the management of our hosted platform offering.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Collaborate and work closely with the product and design team to understand better the end-
user requirements.
• Develop sustainable web applications and other platform component microservices
• Contribute to the design of data models and query patterns
• Contribute to the testing and improvement of overall application performance
• Troubleshoot and debug applications
• Participate in the complete application development lifecycle
• Provide training and support to other team members
• Contribute to the documentation of high level functionality and API references

Skills and Expertise (Required):
• Ability to work independently or with a group
• Strong foundation of software development life cycle
• Proficiency with the Java language and build tooling
• Experience designing, developing, or using distributed systems
• Experience with software concurrency patterns
• Experience with software and database performance analysis and optimization
• Basic familiarity with Cassandra operations and management
• Familiarity with designing data models for Cassandra and the Java client driver
• Familiarity with Git
• Familiarity with Linux
• Familiarity with Test Driven Development and Java testing frameworks

Skills and Expertise (Desired):
• Experience designing RESTful APIs
• Experience with Bash and Ruby scripting
• Experience with DevOps and CI/CD practices
• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
• Basic experience and knowledge of application security practices
• Familiarity with AWS
• Familiarity with designing data models for Relational Databases and with JDBC
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Kibana, and structured logging
• Familiarity with the Scrum software development framework
• Familiarity with additional JVM languages (Kotlin, Scala, Clojure, etc)
• Full-stack development capabilities
