Graduate student applicants must qualify for Federal Student Aid. Applicants must complete and submit a 2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form which can be found at https://fafsa.ed.gov/ . The deadline to submit the FAFSA form for Indiana is April 15, 2020 as a received date or as soon as possible, please. FAFSA forms submitted and received after April 15 may have a delay in eligibility determination. After July 1, 2020, the IU Bloomington Office of Student Financial Assistance (IUBOSFA) will advise the unit vacant position supervisor of the applicant's eligibility assessment results. Applicants should not submit their confidential FAFSA reports to the supervisor.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT-ASDV (BL-ACSP-IUBLA)
The mission of the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program (HHSP) is to promote Indiana University's efforts to create a community of educational diversity and inclusion. The primary role of the HHSP STEM & Wellness Graduate Assistant (GA) is to support the Scholars Program by assisting both the HHSP STEM Coordinator and the HHSP Wellness & Retention Coordinator in the planning, promotion, and implementation of ongoing and newly developing programs and services for Hudson & Holland students. The Wellness component of the position is developed from the ongoing partnership with the Department of Applied Health Science within the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Programming and events:
- Assists HHSP in the planning, design, and implementation of academic, career, and social programs and events related to STEM and the Wellness & Retention Program (W&R).
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Wellness portion of the W&R program. This includes a variety of public health issues, including, but not limited to, stress management, goal setting, school-life balance, healthy relationships, nutrition and fitness, connecting to campus and community resources, college transition, and time management.
- Serves as a liaison between HHSP and the School of Public Health, as well as other partners not limited to units within the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA), IU schools and programs, other academic institutions, and the community.
- Collaborates, supports, participates and assists in the administration of Hudson & Holland Scholars' academic, career, wellness, engagement, social programs, and events.
- Develops communications and materials to promote programs, registers students for events, and tracks attendance.
- Creates and disseminates assessment tools to measure efficacy of STEM and Wellness programming.
- Creates and maintains accurate records and reports.
- Performs other duties related to projects and programs, as assigned.
Academic support and information management:
- Recruits Hudson & Holland Peer Tutors and Peer Advisors, and develops tutoring and advising schedules.
- Compiles, updates, and disseminates tutoring and other academic resources offered by academic departments and other campus units.
- Utilizes HHSP communications and beINvolved to advertise and promote programs and services.
- Compiles and updates information about STEM undergraduate research opportunities at IU and other institutions.
- Compiles, organizes, and updates resources for students as undergraduates as well as in preparation for graduate/professional school.
- Mentors students and serves as a resource for those interested in graduate/professional programs.
- Informs students of OVPDEMA and other IU programs and events that support HHSP's initiatives.
In addition to the aforementioned duties and responsibilities, the HHSP STEM & Wellness GA may be assigned a special project as deemed necessary and appropriate by the STEM Coordinator & Advisor, Wellness & Retention Coordinator, Director, or Associate Director of the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program (HHSP). The HHSP STEM & Wellness GA may also choose to get involved in certain special projects. A specialized project may involve program development, technology, research or other necessary projects based upon HHSP's needs and the HHSP STEM & Wellness GA's skills and experience. Some examples are leading focus groups, conducting surveys, serving on committees, assisting with various events, and assisting HHSP student organizations and service projects . Required Qualifications Currently enrolled as a full-time student in good academic standing at Indiana University Bloomington in either a master's or doctoral program in the School of Public Health or other STEM-related program, and one year of experience in programming, event planning, project development, or working with undergraduate student populations.
Ability to demonstrate a high level of motivation, initiative, and follow-through with minimal supervision. Organization skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete tasks within tight timeframes. Ability to problem solve, apply good judgement, think creatively, and show attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse staff, faculty, and student populations. Demonstrated writing, editing, and research skills. Proficiency in Microsoft applications. Demonstrated leadership skills. Demonstrated academic excellence. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in graphic design, web design, or social media.Working Conditions / Demands
The Graduate Assistant must be a Bloomington campus student and may not concurrently hold a position as Associate Instructor, Graduate Assistant, or Research Assistant, nor be committed to other full-time or part-time work. The student is expected to work evening hours and weekend events as needed, while complying with the 20 hours per week rule per Agreement for Student Academic Appointee.
The HHSP STEM & Wellness GA is expected to maintain timely attendance with assigned and agreed upon work schedules. The HHSP STEM & Wellness GA is also expected to maintain regular communication with the STEM Coordinator and the Wellness & Retention Coordinator, provide feedback and updates on projects, and receive regular supervision from both Coordinators. $10,000 stipend disbursed in 10 monthly payments, a 30 credit hour fee remission with a maximum of 12 credit hours per semester and 6 credit hours during the summer, and health insurance coverage from August 1, 2020 through July 31, 2021.Work Hours Academic Year:
2020- 2021, 10 month academic appointment.
20 hours per week, 50% of Full Time Equivalent.
Work hours are flexible but are not to exceed 20 hours per week per Agreement for Student Academic Appointee. The HHSP STEM & Wellness GA can work anytime during 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. With management approval of the schedule, the HHSP STEM & Wellness GA may be asked to work a modified schedule during some weeks (several evenings and weekends) in order to assist with HHSP programs and events as needed.
