The AVP is a senior fundraising position within the JDRF Leadership Giving team that possesses the skills and experience to develop our most innovative and strategic donor engagements while also serving as a thought leader within our organization and team. This person will join JDRF at a transformational time, as we embark on the organization's first comprehensive campaign in over a decade.

Reporting to the VP of Leadership Giving and working closely within the Global Development Team, this individual will have overall responsibility for leading and supporting strategic, high value donor strategies and leading and coaching a team of fundraising professionals to capture significant donor opportunities. They will innovate strategies that align with JDRF mission priorities to better position JDRF as a charity of choice among philanthropists. The AVP of Leadership Giving is a player/coach role that will have direct reports as well as individual and group revenue responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as leader and coach to regional LG team, driving LG team excellence and transformational revenue growth.
  • Represents and delivers a consistent LG program experience for prospects and donors, as well as Executive Directors, Regional Director, and LG staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for development and execution of strategies to achieve regional and national LG budget in partnership with VP and other AVPs.
  • Responsible for a portfolio of ~40 donors focused on the potential to give $250K+, with revenue and activity goals set annually.
  • Within personal portfolio and as a coach, develops strategic plans for donors employing an understanding of research, comprehensive campaign strategy, and giving opportunities, while leveraging internal and external relationships.
  • Partners with Executive Director(s), Regional Director, LG staff and staff partners across JDRF to ensure that key information and comprehensive strategies are in place for all prospects and donors of $100K+ in assigned regional portfolio.
  • Works closely with VP and Associate National Director (Strategic Operations) to consistently apply the LG Playbook and support the needs of the LG team.
  • Partners with the VP to develop LG key performance indicators and manages to individual and team achievement of KPIs over the course of the fiscal year; identifies and troubleshoots challenges to achieving KPIs in timely manner.
  • Uses data- and information-related business practices and processes to build pipeline, increase revenue, and apply resources.
  • With partnership of Philanthropic Intelligence & Analytics, helps oversee and manage strong portfolio health and development for regional team.
  • Supports the development of and partnership with volunteers to serve as peers in LG efforts in region.
  • Builds and executes optimized working structure/relationships among national and chapter staff for leadership giving growth and success.
  • Mentors and provides strategic insight and professional development to both national and chapter development staff as needed.
  • Serves as LG partner to chapter(s), as needed in the case of staff vacancies, in partnership with Associate National Director, Leadership Giving (Strategic Operations).

Qualifications
  • 10 years of donor development experience, with at least 5 years in a direct fundraising role and a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission-driven organization.
  • 3 years of experience directly managing a major gift fundraising team or equivalent management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven track record of supervising, coaching, developing, leading, inspiring, and motivating staff. Strong desire to build high-performing team and benchmark strategic communications function.
  • Ability to effectively manage donor engagements while recognizing and leveraging the expertise of the different resources and the importance of their contributions
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex research about diabetes and Type 1 healthcare environment.
  • Proven track record working with and fundraising at the six and seven figure level. Experience building cases and communicating donor-specific value propositions, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor.
  • Experience coordinating team members to develop scripts, discovery process, best practices, sharing expertise/training and guiding solution development
  • Highly efficient in time management and meeting deadlines under pressure without sacrificing quality.
  • Experience leading and delivering complex enterprise solutions and teams within highly matrixed organizations.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task and inspire people at all levels of the organization; easy to work with and knows how to gain the confidence of others.
  • Sound professional judgement and interpersonal skills as well as strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Superior active listening, observation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent business instincts.
  • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
  • Strong capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements. Inspiring team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers to develop, maintain and utilize relationships. Proven track record working with Executive Teams, including CEO, to support strategic business priorities.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit who thrives in a fast-paced organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong presentation delivery, ability to convey ideas, and provide effective instruction.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM system and MS Suite.
  • Ability to travel (about 30% of the time).
