Dow has an exciting and challenging opportunity available for a Associate Medical Director of Occupational Medicine. The position will be U.S.-based, location flexible and remote work possible with alignment to a major Dow sites.

Following leadership from the Chief Medical Officer, as well as Regional Health Director(s) and other key regional and functional leadership partners, the role implements a portfolio of health services while ensuring high performance against targets and the optimal management of services. Ensures optimal implementation of Occupational Health (OH) requirements and serves as a consultant on key health issues at a mega site and/or across a few moderate sized sites in a geographic area.

In this position, the physician will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer and will be a member of the global OH leadership team as well as the North-America OH leadership team. The selected candidate will also work closely with the OH operations and governance team and will integrate with the OH regional clinic teams.

Upon successful integration in Dow, the physician will be considered in succession plan to NA Medical Director.

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Serves as Dow's technical expert on assigned subject area(s), and participates in the development and implementation of related operating discipline, programs, and plans.

  • Customizes global and regional offerings to meet client needs.

  • Ensures improvements and optimal implementation of Dow Occupational Health requirements and operating disciplines, and ensures sustainable execution.

  • Participates with OH audits for clinic sites, as well as oversight for third party providers.

  • Plays key role in issue management across a broad array of human health matters for employees. Might include expertise for areas such as emergency medical response programs, infectious disease transmission prevention, medical records and data management, travel medicine, surveillance programs, case management, accommodations and return to work, healthy culture, and health and wellbeing strategy.

  • Establishes a collaboration with other functions (e.g. Human Resources (HR), Operations, Public Affairs, Security, Safety etc.), and may build effective relationships with community/state/national/public, health care, and health policy organizations.

  • Represents the Company in the health arena with third party organizations, including the media and Dow Public Affairs, as needed.

  • Provides oversight of clinical operations and personally provides direction on moderate-high risk/complexity cases and/or medical care.

  • Provides services as a medical professional with oversight, legal, and professional accountability for staff providing services at site clinics; includes engagement with U.S. on-call schedules.

Functional skills:

  • Recognized as an expert within Occupational Medicine. Ability to manage complex medical cases and evaluate and determine the need of tests or referral to external medical clinics.

  • Applies in-depth knowledge of and advanced level of expertise to lead projects with notable risks and complexity

  • Uses broad knowledge to contribute to the development of OM strategies and their effective implementation

  • Provides leadership and guidance to help others find solutions to unique or complex problems with widespread business impacts

  • Uses conceptual and innovative thinking to develop creative solutions to unique or complex problems

  • Anticipates potential business and regulatory issues and recommends OH product, process, and/or service improvements

  • Understands government requirements regulating Occupational Health activities - Ability to understand, interpret, explain and implement those requirements

  • Global travel medicine experience including pandemic response

  • Medical case management expertise in collaboration with HR and EHS partners

  • Knowledge on Epidemiology methods. Ability to identify when a study is necessary

  • Can access global and local EH&S Standards

  • Can identify and access EH&S Subject Matter Experts

Leadership/Interpersonal effectiveness:

  • Communicates complex ideas to others

  • Anticipates potential objections and persuades others (often in senior Job Grades) to adopt a different point of view

  • Inspires and persuades peers, other functional leaders and team members to act in collaborative ways

  • Ability to conduct needs assessment and develop detailed implementation plans, including setting priorities and ensuring alignment with long-term strategy and health promotion programs

  • Ability to provide management to OH staff and vendors at the sites

  • Knowledge to design and deliver a training program for employees

  • Ability to lead and align people with the organizational strategy; knowledge of administrative management of people.

  • Ability to develop contacts with key partners in the community (scientific and not scientific) and participate in community panels/organizations

  • Understand services to be provided to Dow travelers and internal/external sources of information

  • Knowledge of the Medical Review Board operating discipline

  • Ability to organize Substance abuse programs

Qualifications:

  • A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree is required.

  • At least 10 years in the field of Occupational Health and at least 5 years of Leadership experience (clinic(s) and/or company expertise) is strongly preferred.

  • Certification in Occupational medicine is strongly preferred.

  • Active license is strongly preferred

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
