Primary Purpose:

Working with the Law Library Director, plan, develop, and direct the library's reference service activities, circulation and materials processing, as well as activities of the library's Systems Administrator. Provide oversight for the library's integrated library system, OCLC WMS, and electronic services and products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With the library director, oversee planning, developing, and evaluating reference activities and initiatives, including liaison programs, outreach, and library-related teaching initiatives and programs.
  • With the library director and systems administrator, oversee initiatives related to library systems, specifically related to the integrated library system.
  • Assist in hiring, supervising, evaluating and developing professional librarian and staff performance.
  • Working with the Law Library Director, initiate and support professional level activities of the reference librarians.
  • Working with the Law Library Director, initiate and support paraprofessional level activities of library technical assistants and the Systems Administrator.
  • Work closely with the Law Library Director and department heads to ensure the coordination of programs and services for the law library's patrons.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of procedures manuals and/or LibGuides for acquisitions, circulation, ILL, room reservations, course reserves, patron record maintenance, shelving & filing, serials check-in & claims, and workflow processes.
  • Assist with budgeting, and fund allocations.
  • Assist in maintaining statistics and preparing required reports.
  • Serve as the lead in coordinating and directing law library electronic services, including database access, web page development, and electronic resource management.
  • Participate in strategic planning with respect to the future growth and development of the law library and the initiation and monitoring of library programs and services.
  • Assists in negotiating contracts with publishers and library vendors.
  • Support the Library's relations with the law school, the University, library consortia and professional organizations.
  • Assist in various law library programs including collection assessment and development, materials preservation, classroom presentations, webcasts, and the creation and updating of bibliographies, webliographies, and topical legal research pathfinders.
  • Assist with circulation and reference services with students, faculty and other library patrons.
  • Develops, plans and coordinates customer service initiatives within Public Services.
  • Handles visitor access requests and coordinates library tours and orientation activities.
  • Composes and delivers lectures on legal research to law students.
  • Keep current with developments in legal librarianship by following literature, attending continuing education classes and participating in professional associations.
  • Assist in special law library projects identified by the Law Library Director.
  • May serve as an Adjunct Professor for the College of Law and should be available to provide service and/or answer questions for students accordingly; which may be outside the Adjunct teaching hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
