We are seeking to recruit an Associate Director - Developability and Lead Optimization.

Job Responsibilities

As team leader of the Developability group within Biologics Engineering your main responsibilities will be to manage and lead the BE developability team in the US, formulating the overall goals, strategies and data interpretation of early developability assessment for all of the biologics in the AstraZeneca portfolio. You will create research plans, analyze and interpret data and present results to the group, the department and AZ senior leadership. You are expected to have a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills and keep good records. Strong leadership and team-based communication and presentation skills are essential to this role.

  • Managing and mentoring a team of scientists conducting platform and pipeline focused developability assays for biologics in Early Oncology, Respiratory and Inflammation, Cardiovascular and Metabolic and Vaccine and Immunity therapy areas.
  • Coordinate, align and plan developability workflows with the relevant Research teams while communicating and collaborating with scientist in the Biopharmaceutical Development.
  • Collaborate and work with a diverse group of scientists across many therapeutic areas, chemistry, and process development teams to ensure timely progress in research projects and drive technological innovations.
  • Lead and coordinate laboratory maintenance, assay development and scientific publications for a cross-functional developability team.

Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology/ Chemical Biology/ Biochemistry or other relevant discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience - OR - Masters in Molecular Biology / Chemical Biology/ Biochemistry or other relevant discipline with 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated extensive hands-on experience in antibody developability and protein engineering.
  • Working knowledge of protein characterization using analytical techniques such as Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC)-HPLC, Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC), Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), Ion-Exchange (IEX), Reversed Phase (RP)-HPLC, etc.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of protein developability assays such as AC-SINS, BVP ELISA, Accelerated stability, etc.
  • Experience working with structural modelling tools
  • Demonstrated experience in optimizing/troubleshooting protocols with a problem-solving mindset
  • Proven ability to work independently, effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion to meet project deadlines
  • Experience managing pipeline projects
  • Track record of scientific innovation as evidenced by scientific publications, patents, and oral presentations at conferences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective presentation of complex scientific data
