Founded in 1999, the James M. Kilts Center for Marketing advances marketing at Chicago Booth by sponsoring faculty research, designing programming that supports MBA students pursuing marketing-related roles, and supporting innovations in the marketing curriculum.

Job Summary

The Associate Director, Communications and Marketing develops, plans, and executes the Kilts Center's communications and marketing efforts aimed at building awareness, understanding and interest for the Kilts brand name and programs, and the Chicago Booth Approach to Marketing among our target audiences. Target audiences include internal (e.g. internal Booth partners, faculty, prospective MBA students, current MBA and PhD students, alumni) and external (e.g. corporate partners, data partners, thought leaders around the world, and marketing practitioners).

Responsibilities include managing all Center event- and non-event communications, dissemination of faculty research, and ensuring consistent visual brand identity and messaging. This role guides content development for the Kilts Center including websites, newsletters, emails, blogs, social media, print, videos, and other promotional materials.

By building and maintaining strong relationships with Booth internal departments, student groups and faculty, this person will generate and disseminate a wide range of communications via traditional media, digital, social media and other channels. This person will also be responsible for measuring the effectiveness of the comprehensive marketing and communications efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the visual identity, branding, and consistent messaging of the Center to various audiences.
  • Leads development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to increase awareness and visibility of the Center and marketing at Chicago Booth.
  • Identifies new communications initiatives and enhancements to current initiatives, and sets priorities.
  • Creates and executes annual communications plan for the Center.
  • Manages all event- and non-event related communications and promotions.
  • Cultivates and stewards relationships with communications/marketing staff in various departments and groups at Chicago Booth, including central Booth Marketing and Social Media, Media Relations and Communications, Intellectual Capital, Admissions, Alumni Relations, Career Services, student groups, and other Booth Centers - to generate, repurpose, and disseminate content.
  • Collaborates closely with the Kilts Center's Events and Programs team members to create effective communications that drive event attendance.
  • Acts as relationship manager to student groups with whom the Kilts Center partners.
  • Interfaces with key constituents to plan, craft, and execute various Kilts Center publications and communications, including but not limited to websites, newsletters, email announcements, presentations, social media posts, blog entries, promotional materials, signage, etc.
  • Develops content and strategizes on creative and interactive ways to engage with students, speakers, alumni, faculty, and corporate partners.
  • Develops and optimizes standard processes related to all communications, and facilitates the seamless execution of communications and marketing tactics.
  • Supports creation of content that highlights the success of the Center by working with other departments and freelance writers.
  • Facilitates dissemination of faculty research across various communication channels.
  • Develops annual reports and external print publications.
  • Drafts content and oversees design and copy edits.
  • Evaluates success with detailed metrics across all channels, and makes strategic recommendations for improving performance of communications efforts.
  • Serves as Kilts Center liaison to enterprise communications groups such as Booth's central marketing team and social media council.
  • Acts as a willing resource to support ad hoc requests related to programs, events, and non-communications Kilts Center projects, as needed.
  • Develops one or more of the following marketing functions: marketing communications and advertising, web blogs or other digital marketing, and market research. Reviews and updates marketing infrastructure which may include one or more database systems, the intranet, and external web sites.
  • Develops marketing communications, advertising, or publicity strategy. Plans and coordinates the development and production of marketing campaigns, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met. Designs, writes, and edits high profile or high visibility marketing materials, which may include press releases, book jacket copy, blogs, or other Web material.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, marketing, communications or journalism.
  • Master's degree.

Experience:
  • Minimum three years of experience in communications, writing and marketing or similar roles.
  • Writing for business and/or nonprofit audiences.
  • Background in higher education.
  • Minimum two years of experience with project coordination and/or project management.
  • Branding and visual identity experience.
  • Digital marketing and social media experience.
  • Developing communications plans.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Proven office computer skills: e.g., MS Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of media, including social media, print, and web communications.

Working Conditions
  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours on occasion.
  • Travel between Hyde Park and downtown Chicago.
