Position Purpose:

The Associate Athletics Director for Sport Administration reports to the Executive Associate Athletics Director for Administration and will assist in providing day-to-day support and leadership to the Sport Administration team, consisting of 10+ primary and secondary sport administrators. This role assists and supports the strategic leadership and administration of all 35 varsity sports programs, including direct oversight of select varsity sports programs. This position serves as a member of the department's sport administrator team that is committed to the core values of tenacity, collaboration, and passion and advancing Dartmouth College Athletics and Recreation through its strategic priorities.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Four or more years experience or combination of education and experience.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Three or more years of athletics administrative experience, preferably including sport oversight and/or collegiate coaching experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for constructive interaction with associates, assistants, coaches, department staff, student-athletes, administrators, and faculty.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in sensitive situations and work effectively in a fast-paced and complex work environment.
  • Demonstrated success engaging and building collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including coaches, student-athletes, faculty, staff, campus, and corporate partners, donors, and community members.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • Previous supervisory experience and experience as a collegiate athlete or coach.

Description:

Varsity Sports Administration

  • Provides support in developing the operationalized framework related to the strategic leadership and direction of 35 varsity sports. Including but not limited to participating and providing organization support in head and assistant coach searches, conducting and compiling research for annual updates/reports on Varsity Sport Programs, and analyzing data available to DCARD.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of DCARD policies, procedures, and best practices related to Varsity Sport Administration.
  • Create and implement sports administration resources and tools to assist Sport AD's in effectively and efficiently managing assigned sports.
  • Responsible for the oversight, coordination and distribution of sport program sustaining and end-of-season student-athletes surveys through the DCARD established software (i.e., Real Response).
  • Manages head and assistant coach contract database to monitor all contract terms. Including but not limited to contract expiration, achievement of performance incentive, and any necessary documentation related to contracts.
  • Serve as a member of a DCARD Roster Management team, providing oversight of compliance and gender equity with institutional roster management requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Athletics Compliance Office and Facilities regarding approval of institutional and non-institutional camps/clinics holistically across DCARD.
  • Prepares agendas and/or materials for meetings, educational resources and Professional Development opportunities (PowerPoints, Agendas, curriculum, speakers etc.) for Sport Administrators.
  • Evaluates, prioritizes, and resolves incoming issues and concerns addressed to Sport Administrators, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature. Recommends and/or executes an appropriate course of action, referral, or response as appropriate.
  • Provides project management support with various department initiatives and projects as directed by the Executive Associate Athletics Director.
  • Analyzes Varsity Sport practices to identify inefficiencies and recommend alternative approaches to pursue program goals that better maximize departmental resources to leverage purchasing power, optimize cross-program utilization and align resources with priorities.

Sport Supervision

  • Sport Oversight responsibilities and duties for selected Varsity Sports Teams, including but not limited to:
    • Supervision and evaluation of coaches, scheduling, budget development and oversight, regular evaluation of program resources and performance goals, strategic planning, and management of student-athlete grievances and issues.
    • Providing leadership, directing, and establishing meetings with coaching staff.
    • Traveling with team.
    • Attending practices.
    • Building rapport with students support staff, alums, and donors.

General Administration

  • Gathers, organizes, and distributes best practices, benchmarking, and other relevant data from peer institutions around industry questions to inform administrative decision making.
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery Act and other compliance requirements.
  • Serves on department and college committees.
  • Articulates the department's vision and goals in concert with the College's mission and values.
  • Maintains effective relationships with faculty, students, alumni, and athletics support groups.
  • Serves as liaison with the Ivy League, NCAA, and other organizations as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
