Brief Summary of Job Duties
Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and working closely with the Morgan State University Foundation Board of Directors and university senior staff, the AVP will oversee Morgan's development function, shaping and implementing the university's overall fundraising strategies and leading a professional fundraising staff. The AVP will be charged with building on recent development efforts, as well as establishing additional sources of revenue to strengthen and enhance the university's impact and reach.

Requested Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university. Previous experience as an established leader with a minimum of five (5) years of successful development and supervisory experience is required. Significant senior-level experience in areas including corporate, foundation and individual fundraising, proposal writing, event planning and management and advancement services is also required.

  • Working knowledge of the philanthropic community.
  • Outstanding writing and communications skills. Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. This position requires non-standard hours including some weekends and evenings.

    Preferences

    Candidates with seven (7) to ten (10) years of fundraising and supervisory experience including direct solicitation experience, preferably in higher education will be given preference.
