Assistant Superintendent

Nature of Work

Assist the project superintendent with the assignedscope of responsibility.  Monitor andcoordinate subcontractor work and, when appropriate, self-perform activities. 

EssentialDuties and Responsibilities

• Study plans and specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
• Advise senior level superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interference, schedule difficulties, etc.; assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required.
• As required, coordinate work among various subcontractors to achieve a smooth project operation.
• Actively review the work performance to assure good quality control and make certain work conforms with plans and specifications.
• Exercise initiative or, as directed, perform additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.

SupervisoryResponsibilities

• Ability to travel to jobsites nationwide is strongly preferred, but not required.
  

Education

• A minimum of a high school degree or GED
• One year vocational training from a two-year college or technical school ispreferred.

Experience
One to five yearsor more of related work experience required.


Physical Demands
Physical demandsfor this position are heavy. Physicalexertion such as long periods of standing; lifting of heavy items (50-75pounds), walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending,crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing or similar activities. Thework may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilitiessuch as above-average agility and dexterity.

Work Environment
Standard project site environment thatmay include machinery, parts and chemicals. May require protective gear.
