Description:

The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is soliciting applications for a tenure‐track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of Biochemistry or Biophysics of Membranes.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop an innovative, nationally recognized, and extramurally funded research program that addresses research problems at the cutting edge of experimental biochemistry and biophysics. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in the area of membrane structure and function that complement existing areas of strength within BCMB (https://bcmb.utk.edu). The BCMB Department is a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary department of 24 tenure line faculty members. The candidate will have laboratory space in the new Ken and Blair Mossman building, which houses high-level research and instructional space, a biophysical instrumentation facility (https://bcmb.utk.edu/research/bioanalytical-resource-facility/), and a modern vivarium. The applicant will also have access to core facilities that contain shared instrumentation for next-generation sequencing (https://dna.utk.edu/), an advanced microscopy and imaging facility (https://microscopy.utk.edu/), a Biological and Small Molecule mass-spectrometry facility, and greenhouse and growth facilities. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in the newly created University of Tennessee Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (https://research.tennessee.edu/orii), a T32 Integrated Membrane Biology NIH training grant, and will benefit from cutting-edge computational resources, and the on-campus National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (http://www.nimbios.org/qb/).


Qualifications:

Applicants must have a doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) and postdoctoral experience in an appropriate discipline with evidence of high-quality research, as demonstrated on the candidate's CV and in the candidate's Statement of Research. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department. We are looking for candidates committed to effective undergraduate and graduate teaching as described in the candidate's Statement of Teaching. In addition, the Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee seeks candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024.
