MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY
Assistant Plant Manager will work with the Plant Manager to oversee all production activities, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment repairs, and equipment installations to ensure the maximum uptime on all equipment. Manage all daily functions associated with production, building, and grounds. Direct all shift supervisors, leads, and mechanics to work as a team to support all manufacturing departments. Monitor plant progress and determine training needs to ensure a well-trained workforce that can provide the quickest response time for improved efficiency and quality.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.

  • Manage the daily control of labor, materials, and other plant costs to meet budget targets.
  • Plan and establish daily work schedules, assignments, and production output to meet production goals.
  • Implement and support plant, corporate safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for facilities repair, maintenance activities, and annual inspections and testing such as, burglar, fire alarm system, and all activities to maintain a safe and functional facility.
  • Responsible for reporting building and lease requirements to property owner.
  • Ensure consistency and appropriate staffing across all crews.
  • Ensure procedures are being followed consistently across all crews.
  • Ensure teamwork across crews/ setup for success.
  • Lead a team of production supervisors and maintenance personnel to maximize safety and production initiatives.
  • Manage maintenance and production personnel to develop long-range strategies for preventative maintenance.
  • Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare reviews.
  • Maintain a clean and safe plant.
  • Mechanical and electrical facilities equipment installations (Vacuum Systems, sump pumps, chillers, etc.).
  • Knowledge in environmental/safety regulations and requirements.
  • Work closely with Corporate Planning, Plant Scheduling/Cycle counter, and Supervisors to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Supervisors on all issues impacting the Plant.
  • Perform analysis of equipment to solve problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Create and plan capital improvement projects for the facility and production needs.
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency (Action Oriented), and the ability to transmit that sense of urgency to the Production Team in a constructive fashion.
  • Ability to set clear goals and expectations for self and for direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

  • A Minimum of eight years' experience; five years' experience in a maintenance environment with three years' experience in a supervisory capacity.

EDUCATION

  • Ideal candidates should have a BS level degree preferred in an Engineering discipline with five years of related experience in manufacturing.

SKILLS

  • Experience in technical areas including machine shop operations, welding, basic electrical practices, fluid power, pneumatics, and pipefitting.
  • Good computer skills specifically in Excel spreadsheets and the ability to learn and navigate new computer systems.
  • Must have a high-level ability to furnish technical guidance to all levels of Production,
  • Engineering, QA, and Management.
  • Must have the ability to plan and coordinate projects and outside activities.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge of machine operation and ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively.
  • Advanced supervisory and management skills.
  • Ability to set personal and department goals and objectives.
  • Able to communicate with all levels internally and externally.
  • Able to exercise good judgment on highly complex situations.
  • Capable of extended hours and on-call at all times.
  • Microsoft Project, Excel spreadsheets, light CAD work, and drawing/design review support for facilities projects.
  • Knowledge in environmental/safety (OSHA) regulations and requirements

POSITION IN ORGANIZATION

Reports to: Plant Manager
Directly Supervises: Production Supervisors, Maintenance, Parts Coordinator, and Cycle Counter
Indirectly Supervises: Hourly personnel and Warehouse personnel (Shipping), and some Maintenance personnel.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Act in a consulting capacity to management, engineering, and other departments requiring technical guidance.
External: Work with vendors, contractors, and consultants as required. May guide and coordinate the procurement of prototype tooling and other support material and equipment.
