Job Description:

We are seeking an Application Development Engineer that enjoys being a self-starter and creative! At Crystal IS, you will be working with UV LED cutting-edge technology and using your customers service skills to help find solutions for our customers. Requirements are a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics or related field and have at least 2 years of hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, programming and or biological work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand the designing of circuits for UV LEDs in various applications
  • Use Solidworks and Eagle to model and design setups, prototypes, control systems, and PCBs for customers and internal projects
  • Ability to listen and learn customer and sales staff needs and wants for the product design
  • Review customer electrical and mechanical schematics and data to provide feedback
  • Develop reference designs and write supporting technical documents which include application notes, presentations, datasheets, and papers
  • Machine prototypes with basic tools (bandsaw, drill press, sander, dremel)
  • Arrange and perform optical measurements with optometers and spectrometers
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical challenges at the customer site and/or in our own lab
  • Use Zemax and Solidworks Flow / Ansys to perform optical and fluid simulations and provide design suggestions to customers based on results
  • Propose and design experiments and applications to create new markets
  • Work in BSL2 biolab and with lead microbiologist to design experiments, assemble measurement setups and do plate counts to run experiments
  • Work in chemistry lab to design and run experiments on prototypes
  • Solder SMD and through hole devices and boards for various applications
  • Program microcontrollers and design measurement systems

Minimum Education / Work Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or Physics or related field
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years hands on experience with electrical, mechanical, programing, and/or biological work
  • Solidworks and Autocad required Zemax experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Project Management experience a plus but not required

Work Environment / Physical Demands / Travel
  • Laboratory environment, must be able to wear PPE when required including but not limited to safety glasses, steel toe boots and earplugs
  • Sits, walks, stands, stairs and occasionally lifts 15 lbs.
  • Occasional travel to supplier or customer locations and office sites (up to 10%)
  • Possible 1-2 trips a year internationally
