GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) Department of Medicine (DOM) is a Harvard Medical School (HMS)-affiliated academic department comprised of over 1,500 faculty members, 21 divisions, $235 million in annual professional clinical revenue, 350 residents and fellows, and more than $450 million in annual research expenditures. The DOM is the largest academic department at BWH and among the largest in the country.
Reporting to the Director of Analysis & Planning, the Project Manager will primarily support the DOM's network development and analytical efforts through project management support and coordination with DOM divisions. This includes partnering with DOM division leaders to organize initiatives and partnerships with other Brigham Health departments and healthcare organizations outside Brigham Health and to drive progress in implementation.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Project Manager's primary responsibilities include the following:
Operational and Financial Analysis
- Leverage experience in clinical healthcare environment to work directly with DOM division leaders and outside partner institutions to organize, plan, project-manage, and implement DOM initiatives.
- Draft, gather, maintain, and report on project planning and status regularly.
- Create, facilitate, and lead project meetings, working groups, and status reporting presentations.
- Interface with a diversity of project contributors, coordinate dependencies, and effectively influence stakeholders to drive progress in implementation of initiatives.
- Design, compile, and present operational data and financial analyses that support business decision-making, such as profit and loss statements, staffing impacts, success measures, and merger/acquisition modeling.
- Model, improve, and design operational and business processes to increase efficiency and streamline both internal operations and the patient progression through the care continuum.
- Assess and benchmark DOM division clinical operations and financial performance-including clinical productivity, compensation, and staff support models-against national standards; summarize in executive reports; and work with DOM divisions and DOM leadership to craft recommendations.
- Design, compile, and issue executive dashboards-capturing summary financial, operational, and administrative information on all DOM lines of business-for review and use by the Chair and Executive Administrator.
- In partnership with DOM Division Administrators and BWH Service Line Administrators, develop and implement models to support and measure the success of short- and long-term initiatives, including engaging with internal partners and external entities.
- Support coordination of network and innovation programs in alignment with DOM strategic plan through harmonized communication and tracking of initiatives.
- Partner with clinical leaders to identify required resources needed to design appropriate, innovative clinical partnerships that meet mutual goals.
- Model future-state relationship and draft legal/contract terms based on proposed models using healthcare industry experience.
- Working in collaboration with the DOM Contract Analyst, draft and review services contracts; identify areas of risk for DOM and BWPO.
- Support negotiations with outside institutions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under general guidance from the Director and the related DOM divisions' leadership, the Project Manager is expected to perform with a high level of independence and good judgment.
- Keep current regarding trends and developments in the health care field, particularly in healthcare innovation, networks, and business development; as well as planning, analytical, and decision support tools; financial trends; and evolving technologies.
- Balance the interests of the DOM, DOM divisions, Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization (BWPO), Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), and/or DOM business partners.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in related field - completed or in process of completion - strongly preferred.Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in healthcare environment with extensive project management duties. Network development or business development experience a plus.Experience in patient-centered clinical practice or clinical pharmacy preferred.Project Management Professional (PMP)® or equivalent certification a plus.Ability to prepare, interpret and analyze financial statements is required.Prior experience working on a team is required.Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The ability to delegate, effectively supervise, and plan for the timely and successful completion of short- and long-term objectives is essential. The responsibilities of this position require detailed, concentrated effort and constant re-establishment of priorities as well as complex and sensitive decision-making.

- To support on-time administration of multiple, competing priorities, in a matrixed environment. Includes strategy development, action planning, and execution and development of monitoring tools.
- Communication Skills
- To effectively relate to a large and diverse constituency of individuals - including senior DOM leaders, hospital administrative staff, faculty at all levels, trainees and staff, representatives of other BWH offices, potential donors, representatives, and vendors. Must demonstrate superior skills in financial, written, and oral formats.

- To facilitate obtainment of cooperation and support from a broad range of people. Demonstrated ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem solving.

- To ensure the rights and responsibilities of the BWPO, the DOM, and the DOM divisions are fairly and accurately represented.
