The position will be a part of the Musculoskeletal Function, Imaging and Tissue (MSK-FIT) Resource Core, in the School of Health & Human Sciences. The MSK-FIT Resource Core provides access to and training in outcome measures of physical function and the interpretation of imaging modalities, and supports the expansion of biological specimens in the Indiana Biobank from patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

Job Summary

The clinical imaging technician will play an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the Resource Core by assisting the principal investigator (PI) in the performance of imaging tests of the musculoskeletal system. The technician will be trained to perform dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry scans for the assessment of muscle and bone health, and peripheral quantitative computed tomography scans for the assessment of bone health. They will interact with and image research subjects following standard operating procedures (SOP) and in compliance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP). They will adhere to Institutional Review Board (IB) and Radiation Safety Office protocols, process and analyze images to obtain data, perform regular checks of instrument performance, and follow procedures for the back-up and archiving imaging data, all under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and extended research team.

Duties & Responsibilties:

• Oversee day-to-day operation and use of the imaging modalities within the Musculoskeletal Function, Imaging and Tissue (MSK-FIT) Resource Core, including the scheduling and performance of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and peripheral quantitative computed tomography scans of subjects with a range of diseases and conditions.
• Perform imaging procedures on subjects attending the Resource Core, ensuring procedures are performed in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Institutional Review Board and Radiation Safety protocols. Procedures will include the preparation and accurate positioning of subjects, and operation of the imaging equipment to acquire appropriate images.
• Interact with research subjects.
• Reconstruct and analyze acquired images according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to obtain measures of musculoskeletal health.
• Extract data and complete Case Report Forms (CRF) or database entries.
• Audit for accuracy and correct CRFs. Record and document protocol deviations.
• Perform daily and weekly calibrations of imaging equipment for quality control, in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Assist in cross-calibrating of instruments with like instruments in partner facilities.
• Perform regular back-up and archiving of imaging data.
• Maintain a computerized registry for the storage and retrieval of protocol and patient-specific information, including data on Resource Core utilization.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one year of related experience.

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide variety of individuals. Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation. Strong organizational and multitasking skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Imaging and phlebotomy experience.
