    Department Specific Functions

    The Neuro-endovascular Research Division within the Department of Neurology, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Miami, FL, is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to assist in performing experiments, recording results as well as other basic sciences lab management tasks. The Research Assistant will provide support developing therapies, including but not limited to stem cell therapy for neuroendovascular diseases like stroke and dementia.

    The Research Assistant will work under the direct supervision of Principal Investigator (PI)/Research Faculty.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Perform and assist in surgeries for rodent and canine stroke model
    • Perform and assist in molecular biology and in-vitro cell culture experiments
    • Be involved in monitoring of and recording research findings, monitoring animals and be involved with animal care
    • Participate in the maintenance of all lab equipment and supplies
    • Ensure the proper use of lab equipment, order needed lab supplies, take care of shipments, and maintenance of viable cells or other biological products as needed
    • Aid with other laboratory related tasks including website development, organization of lab meetings, compliance deadlines/documentation


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • BS/BA, in Neuroscience, Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or life sciences/health-related field. Advanced degree (Master) preferred, but not required
    • 2-5 years of experience in the field of research is preferred. Freshers with adequate skills and educational qualifications may apply
    • Experience working in a stroke lab, doing stroke surgeries (MCAO model), molecular biology experiments (western blotting, RT-PCR, RNA-DNA isolation), is preferred
    • Demonstrate excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
    • Must have excellent organizational skills
    • Be able to execute experiments under the guidance of PI/Research Faculty
    • Must be able to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency
    • Work cooperatively in a laboratory setting and be willing to work occasional flexible hours as needed
    • Be proficient with use of computers, Microsoft office, remote meeting tools, willing to learn analytical software/s used in the lab, as needed
    • Be an extremely good team player
    • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
